Elizabeth McGehee was born in Tennessee in 1812. She was the daughter of James and Jane McGehee. Elizabeth lived with her family until her marriage to Corbin Pennington. He was born in Kentucky in 1805.

It is unclear why Sarah E Pennington was born so late in Elizabeth's life. Elizabeth was 48 years old when Sarah E Pennington was born. This is not unusual in the family, her mother Jane McGehee was in her 50s when her last child was born.

Corbin and Sarah lived in Knox county Illinois during the blackhawk war with the rest of the family, and moved south as well to Lawrence county Mo. They moved on after 1850 to Texas where they settled in Coryelle county Texas.
