Mustang Annie by Rachelle Morgan August 2000

First, most everyone I know--except my family--calls me Sheli. They probably call me lots of other things too, but Sheli is what I answer to, and Rachelle is the name I was born with, and since it sounded historical, I decided to use it in relation to my work. I've been writing since 1991 after an ongoing love affair with reading----romances especially--and am honored to have been nominated for both a RITA award and a Rom Con Award for my first book, THE FLIRT/Jove/12-95. I have a very tolerant husband who never seems to mind that I'm either heavily involved with Studmuffin, my pc, or snuggled up with a paperback. The kids like it better when I'm reading, because then they get to play with Studmuffin--it's a family thing, you see.

Below are a list of a few of my favorite things. I'll probably add more as I think of them :-)

Favorite Actor: Mel Gibson

Favorite Food: Shrimp & Steak and coffee (don't tell me it isn't a food, my heart couldn't take it!)

Favorite Color: Green

Favorite Hobby: Talking on the phone, reading

Favorite Sport: Football (Dallas Cowboys & Green Bay Packers) and gymnastics.

Favorite Reading Material: Historical romances, especially westerns, but I like all different genres. I also love research books, and books on Royalty

Favorite Gift: Anything with a southwestern flair, any sort of research material, books, or writing stuff. Also like home decorations, like pictures or dried flowers, etc.

Most unsettling experience: When I was a teenager, moving from Nebraska to California, my mom got behind some fool who was weaving (in his car) all over the road. My brother flipped him off. The guy stopped his car right smack in the middle of the Colorado Highway, got out of the car, and pulled a gun on us. Freaked me out!

Most embarassing experience: Gee, I have to pick? Could it be when I mistook a friend's son for a girl? Or when my shoe nearly reamed a famous author in the head? Or when I was talking unfavorably about an ex-friend, and her husband (who I didn't know was her husband) sat listening to every word? I learned a valuable lesson there....

Favorite Person to be with: My husband, our kids. I have one of the first and we have five of the second. (not to mention umpteen million dogs and cats and cars--my husband collects those!)

T.V. Show: ER, Party of Five, Rosie O'Donnell, Wild America, All My Children, Once and Again (new on ABC)

Favorite Movie: It's a tie between Dances With Wolves, Ghost, and the Little Mermaid

Favorite Song: This is Love/Tim McGraw & Faith Hill, Main Street/Bob Seger, and Amazing Grace.

Favorite Season: Autumn. I love watching the leaves change colors and the smell of burning leaves

Favorite Restaurant: Outback Steakhouse

Favorite Place to Stay: Home--I'm a definite homebody, especially when my kids clean up their mess and there isn't junk laying everywhere.

Favorite Place to Visit: Friend's Houses--I usually have more fun there than anywhere, since they usually know how to make me laugh, which I love to do.

Most often asked question: "How do you write with all those kids?"

Other Facts:

I've been a member of Romance Writers of America since 1992, and also belong to the Published Authors Network (PAN), the Published Authors Special Interest Chapter (PASIC), the East Texas Chapter (ETC) and North Louisiana Chapter (NOLA), I've had a couple of articles published in RWA's Romance Writers Report "Interviewing Characters", "Dictionary of Publishing Terms" which also appears in RWA's "Keys to Success--A Professional Writers Handbook. I am not shy, and love to give talks on this crazy career :) .

Public Appearances

Since I am currently involved in writing my next historical for Avon (a sequal to MUSTANG ANNIE), I am keeping my public appearances to a minimum. However, plans are in the works to attend the November 2000 Romantic Times convention in Houston. I also plan on scheduling a few booksignings in the Dallas and surrounding areas. Watch this spot for more details!
