Taylor scotches Stoichkov speculation

Bulgarian superstar Hristo Stoichkov will not be joining Premiership new-boys Watford.
Hornets manager Graham Taylor has rubbished reports that he is in the process of bringing the former European Footballer of the Year to Vicarage Road.
And Taylor insisted he would not break the club's wage structure to sign big-name foreign players.
Stoichkov, who retired from international football in impressive fashion in the 1-1 draw with England earlier this month, had been linked with Watford by newspapers in Sofia.
The 33-year-old forward is under contract to Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol until June 2000.
Poolside philosopher Watford have been linked with a number of high-profile players since their victory over Bolton in the First Division play-off last month.
Former England manager Taylor - in his second spell at Watford - shrugged off the reports after returning from a post-promotion holiday.
He said: "Whilst I've been in the south of France I've been reading about all of the players I've been talking to and offering £10,000 and £12,000 a week to. "I've been sitting by a swimming pool and for a fortnight I haven't spoken about football to anyone." Taylor praised the skills of Stoichkov and Inter Milan star Giuseppe Bergomi, who has also been linked with a move to Watford.
He added: "I think Stoichkov is a great player and a personality, but it would go against my philosophy.
"If people think I'm in line to be paying people £12,000 - and in this particular player's case I think you'd be talking about three times as much as that - forget it," Taylor told ClubCall.

HORNETS TARGET STOICHKOV STING

GRAHAM TAYLOR has made a shock move to sign Bulgarian legend Hristo Stoichkov.

The former England manager sees 33-year-old Stoichkov as a talisman for Watford following their dramatic elevation to the Premier League.
It's only 11 days since Stoichkov, one of Europe's greatest-ever strikers, retired from international football after Bulgaria's Euro 2000 qualifier against England.
His plan then was to oust Dimitar Dimitrov as Bulgaria's coach and run the national team. Taylor is now trying to persuade the globe-trotting superstar to end his career in the Premier League. He is available on a free transfer after a year in Japan's lucrative J-League with Kashiva Reysol, while Stoichkov still insists he can be a force as a player at the highest level.
He admitted: "I feel in great condition. As far as I am concerned, there's not much difference between European and Japanese football.
"I found it very natural in Japan. My age is not important. You either know how to play the game or you don't - and my record speaks for itself."
Taylor, in his second successful spell at Watford, has worked a miracle in leading rock star Sir Elton John's club into the top flight.
They did well to reach the promotion play-offs, but then stunned Bolton in the final at Wembley last month.
And Taylor, who has made a brilliant recovery from the days of 'Turnip' ridicule during his England reign, will stun soccer again if he succeeds in his bold move for Stoichkov. See Hristo interview
