Brief Military History

I entered military service on Oct. 14, 1947 and received Basic Training in L Co. 2nd Bn. 22nd Regt. 4th Inf. Div. at Ft. Ord, CA. After Basic Training I was sent to Korea and assigned to Hq. Korean Military Advisor Group (KMAG). When the US Forces were moved out of Korea to Japan in 1949, I was assigned to Hq. Btry 64th FA Bn 25th Inf. Div. in Nara Japan. At the outbreak of the Korean War (sorry I meant Police Action) on June 25, 1950, The Div. was alerted and landed in Korean on July 5th. After a year in Korea I came up for rotation back to the States. I was one of the first group to be returned to the States, where I assigned to the 4051 ASU at Ft. Sill. Was discharged Oct, 1951. I reenlisted Jan. 1953, sent to Ft. Sill and assigned to A Btry. 867 FA Bn. (280mm Gun Bn). In May the Btry went to Desert Rock. Nevada and fired the Atomic Test Round on the 25th of May. The Bn. was transferred to Germany in the summer of 1953. Where I remained with the Bn. until I returned to Ft. Sill. OK. in Dec 1955 where I was assigned to B Btry. 534th FA Bn. The summer of 1956 the 534th Bn. was redesignated as 1st How Bn 92 Artillery and sent to Germany. The Unit was rotated back to Ft. Bragg, NC and I was reassigned to U S Army Advisor Group in Tulsa, OK. After 2 years as an Advisor in Tulsa, I was assigned to A Btry 3rd Bn 76th FA 3rd Inf. Div., in Germany, as Chief of Fire and later promoted 1st Sgt. Returned to the States in 1966 and assigned to U S Army Advisor Group (TX NG) in Paris, Texas. In 1967 assigned to 1st Bn 8th FA 25th Inf. Div. in Vietnam. Wounded during the TET offensive and moved to Brooks Hospital in Texas. When I recovered from my wounds I was assigned to U S Army Advisor Group (WY NG) Cheyenne, WY. I retired from Army In June 30, 1969 and moved back to Bells, Texas. Where I still live with my lovely wife of 37 years.
