POOLVILLE, Texas - Nearly 170 people were arrested
this weekend when law enforcement agents raided a
large cockfighting operation in Parker County. Officials say
officers from the Parker County Sheriff, Federal
Bureau of Investigations and neighboring police
departments
surrounded the residence in the 8000
block of Old Agnes
Road in Poolville around 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
Officials say they don't know how long the cockfighting
and gambling ring had been running but they had been
investigation the facility for about three weeks. Those
arrested will likely face felony and misdemeanor
charges.
The Humane Society of Texas and Texas Parks and
Wildlife
Department were also called to the scene to help remove
the animals. A spokesperson for the Humane Society says
they seized 114 birds. Many other birds were found dead
at the scene.
