Duran Duran News

Duran Possible Box Set 07-16-01:
According to duranduran.com (reported on July 13), EMI Records is reportedly working on a box set of the early singles by the band, "reproduced faithfully on CD as they were released on vinyl." There is no release date as of yet. DITF will keep you posted on any further details. *thanks to duranduran.com for the info*

Chat with Warren!
Warren Cuccurullo is going to be on a live chat with Lycos.com tonight, Monday-July 16, 2001, starting at 9PM EST - 6PM PT.

WaCu will be answering questions ranging from his departure from Duran Duran, his reformation of MP, days with Zappa, and even his new online adventure - the erotic Cuccurullo.tv, where being a rockstar online has taken a drastically sexy turnabout.

The Brat is happy to say that she will be attending the chat tonight. Hopefully, there will not be any server problems to deal with, as we seem to weather during any JT chats.

To participate in any Special Event, you need to be a registered member of Lycos Communities. If you're not a member, register now so you can join this chat. You can register at www.lycos.com.

The Fab 5 Returns!
Yes, it's already common knowledge that this is going to happen. Since the Brat is such the procrastinator, she hasn't had the chance to get off her duff and post this vital information!
Actually, she's still reeling in the shock of it all... and of the fact that WaCu has left the band.
But, anywhooo, The original lineup are in the studio currently recording new tracks to the new album, due out in sometime 2002. Now, we all know that if the Duran Norm has it's way, we won't see an album for at least into the middle of 2004. Maybe with JT, Andy and Roger back at the helm, things might speed up a bit, eh? One can only hope.
However, the Brat is happy to report that her beloved WaCu is going to re-form Missing Persons, with a short tour in California to follow. Wazzer needs to book a few dates out in the Dallas area, from what Brat is muttering under her breath.
More news as it hits us in the face, or arse. Whatever.
The Brat goes Backstage with the Boys!

Well, it finally happened! On July 27 at the Dallas show, the Brat finally had the chance of a lifetime to go backstage with the band. It was a short, but interesting pre-show deal. Brat would like to thank the INCREDIBLE Jeff K from www.merge933.net for the opportunity (Check out the radio station's website at http://www.merge933.net

The Brat, aka Jen, bottom right in black; Lynn is on the far left in the white shirt, Tina is next to Lynn in the leopard print shirt, Nikki is the blonde in black towards the center. Merge's Jeff K is in the blue stripes between Nick and Warren. His wife, Carrie, is the beautiful lady in pink crouching next to the Brat.

Here's the quick rundown from the Brat herself:
"Ok, we sat in this room behind the arena and waited about fifteen minutes before the guys came inside. I was there with Tina, Lynn, and my buddy Nikki, waiting anxiously for them to arrive. We spent our time taking a few snapshots of each other, and some of Jeff and his wife and friends. Finally, the door opened, and I could see Nick's head behind the glass doors. The three of them came inside, and everyone started clapping. It was a subdued applause, though...made me feel like I was in some presentation or something.
Simon didn't say a word. I know he doesn't speak before a show, but his attitude was a bit off. He smiled a little to everyone, but he was tired. He admitted to Lynn that he had just woken up before going backstage, so it could be the reason for his attitude.
Nick was friendly, and so was Warren. They both chatted with everyone as much as possible, given the time limit. The entire deal was taking place during the opening act, so there wasn't much time alloted for the Meet-n-Greet.
I was able to give Nick a presentation folder of my website, by Jeff's recommendations, and he was tickled by it all. He was very polite, signed tons of autographs for everyone, and never complained. Simon, on the other hand, left about twenty minutes into the entire thing, but Nick and Warren stayed behind.
Warren allowed me to stand next to him and take a few snapshots. We chatted lightly during this time, and talked a little about music, guitars, etc. He's the only one who took a photo with me, and that will be on the site soon. Nick was in a hurry when he left, so I didn't get a pic of him.
Highlights? Nikki stepped on Nick's toes after the group photo, and Warren piped up, "Thank God she wasn't wearing high heels..." Nick hugged Nikki after she told him her story about not being able to see the band play live all these years. Warren is about as tight as a wire. He's gotten even more the beefcake since last tour, which was pretty darned nice back then! He was also unbelievably nicer than I had expected. He thanked everyone for coming out to the show, and never stopped smiling. And the shirt he wore? Well, I want it. Awesome pink satin shirt with a Kimono Dragon.
Other than that, it was brief, but cool. Lynn managed to get an all-access pass from Dave. He couldn't manage any others, but since she knows him, we didn't mind too much."
~~Brat~~

DITF thanks Lynn for the group photo...

I happen to be one of the writers in the making of a Duranie Journal that is currently crossing the southern half of the US at this time. This is a book that is being sent to various Duran Duran fans across the country, where we will log in our thoughts on the band. The person who came up with the idea is always happy to involve others who are interested in putting their own words to paper. If you would like to get involved with this fun project, you can email either myself directly for the information, or contact SaveSeriousJT@aol.com for more information!

Well, that's it for this news installment! Have a great week folks!

Roger Taylor in the Movies... well sort of...

A new, independent film about Roger Taylor will be viewed at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City Utah this week (January 23 and 25).

The film, Searching For Roger Taylor chronicles the director's search for his childhood rock idol, Roger Taylor (former drummer for Duran Duran). In his quest, the director seeks not just to understand the diappearance of the man, but also an entire decade of artistry.

The film features interviews with Lol Creme, Tony Hadley, Stewart Copeland, Jerry Casale, and other 80's celebrities.

John Taylor Gets Credit

First of all, John Taylor was mentioned in Bass Player Magazine as one of the best bassists in the 1980's. As if we didn't already know that!

Secondly, Sugartown is set for release in the stores on March 21, 2000. Keep your eyes open at the video stores for this one!

IMMEDIATE RELEASE!!!

According to the hotline, Duran Duran's highly anticipated new CD, Pop Trash, will be released in May of 2000. Promotions for the new CD will start sometime in March.

According to an unnamed source who has listened to the new CD, this new album is going to be up there with the "Wedding Album" as far as success goes. The one track, "Someone Else Not Me" is anticipated to bring the band back into the Top 40, as did "Ordinary World" back in 1993.

Fans are impatiently awaiting the release of this new CD ever since hearing some sneak peaks into the tracks during the popular 1999 Summer Tour, which spanned several cities across the US.

All I can say is this, "Hallucinating Elvis" better be on that CD. I completely dug it during the Dallas show on August 22nd.

January 1, 2000:
Happy New Year to EVERYBODY out there from DITF! Hope yours is a safe and wonderful holiday!

SIMON LEBON CHATS LIVE ON MUSIC 365

This afternoon, Simon LeBon took some time out from his busy schedule to chat live with his fans at the Music365 chat site. It was a fun, but quick chat where he answered several questions given to the chat moderator. He spoke about the excitement of playing at Earl's Court in England tomorrow night, as well as admitting to be a fan of the cartoon "South Park" (a show that I'm completely a fan of, btw...).

Simon seemed a bit tired, and answered the question about the original five members of Duran Duran possibly re-grouping by saying, "Never........say never."

He has recently worked with Andy Taylor, former guitarist for the band, on some music, but at this time has not found a way to implement it into his work. He hopes to work around that as soon as possible. He also spoke about his recent appearance on stage with John Taylor, former bassist, by saying that it was wonderful to work with him again, and that he loves the guy.

We hope to see another online chat with Simon soon, as does he.

The Premiere of VH1's Behind The Music, Featuring Duran Duran.

The showcasing of Duran Duran happened yesterday, and the reactions are very mixed from the fans. Most people I have talked to were either pleased or disappointed with the show. I, for one, could have settled for a bit more of Warren's comments on the band...he's been with them for over a decade now, for crying out loud! It was a good show, noting a lot on Simon's Drum accident, as well as their rise to fame in the early 80's. A very well done piece of work, with not a hint of flaming or dirt slinging.
