Mrs. Carpenter lived her entire life in Kansas.
In 1888 she was united in marriage to William Messinger of Baldwin City, Kansas. To this union six children were born: Mattie Stanley, Pasadena, Calif.; Leota Whitman, Salt Lake City, Utah; Claude Messinger, Dawson, Nebr.; Edgar Messinger, Braddyville, Iowa. Two sons Fred and William Messinger, preceded her in death. Mr. Messinger passed away in 1898.
She later married L.W. Carpenter at Baldwin City, Kas. To this union four children were born: Rebecca Miller, Vancouver, Wash.; James, Tacoma, Wash.; Lewis, Wichita, Kas.; and Marie, who died in infancy.
Other survivors are twenty-eight grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, and four great, great grandchildren.
She was a member of the Ulysses Rebekah Lodge 635 for almost 35 years. She attended the Church of Christ at Ulysses.
Burial was in the Prairie City cemetery at Baldwin City with Rev. Paul Berres of Holton in charge of the service.
