She was born in Stella, a daughter of Claude M. Messinger and Winifred O. James Messinger on Feb. 3, 1921. She graduated from Shubert High School.
She married Donald R. Shubert on Aug. 16, 1939. They were later divorced. She married John R. Masat on Oct. 15, 1966, in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Mr. Masat died July 14, 1994.
Mrs. Masat was a payroll clerk for Trans-Com Truck Lines and worked there for 25 years, retiring in 1979. She owned and operated the Wagon Wheel in Falls City from 1978 to 1982 and the Bridge Cafe in Rulo from 1980 to 1990.
She moved to Falls City from Kansas City in 1979.
Mrs. Masat was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Falls City, BPO Does Drove #963 and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by three daughters, Pat (Mrs. Ken) Vonderschmidt, Salem, Sandra (Mrs. Fred) Gilbert, Falls City, and Janet (Mrs. Gary) Barber, Rulo, three sisters, Iona Mez, Falls City, and Irma (Mrs. Vern) Slavin, both of Kansas City, Mo., a brother, William Messinger and his wife Rebecca, Salem, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Mrs. Masat was preceded in death by a brother, Robert, a sister Ila West, and a great-granddaughter, Amber Schafer.
Services for Mrs. Masat will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Falls City, Fr. Robert Roh will officiate. Burial will be at Steele Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel.
Serving as pallbearers will be Maurice Shafer and Don Vonderschmidt, both of Salem, Gerald Barber of Rulo, and Don Kratz, Don Bennett and Dennis Shafer, all of Falls City.
