For her wedding the bride wore a dress of black silk satin with accessories to match and black satin slippers; also wearing a big red veloph rose on the left side of dress.
Mr. Messinger resided with his brother Claude, the last four years. The brothers are partners in farming and stock raising and the bride and groom are now "at home" with Claude and family on the old Mike Shater farm southest of Stella.
Edgar L. Messinger was a high school boy in western Kansas, at Ulysses, and left his studies to answer his country's call in the world war in which he served more than two years. He enlisted at Denver and took training at Mares Island on the coast of California went overseas and among the engagements in which he participated were the Meuse-Argonne, one of the last drives of the war. All in all he had a fine war record, with several decorations **************.
Mrs. Messinger is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Curttright of Nemaha. Mrs. Messinger resided near Syracuse and Dunbar when last January she went to Nemaha to stay with her grandparents to go to school. Her folks moved to Nemaha in February. She was a member of the graduating class at Nemaha and instead of being back in her place at school Monday morning as usual, was at Hiawatha for her wedding. Mr. Messinger was at Nemaha Sunday and in the afternoon he and the lady of his ******* came to the Vennoch home where they spent the evening playing cards. evening the engagement was announced. Mr. and Mrs. Messinger decided they would be married the next day and made arrangements for the wedding *********both remained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vennock for the night. On the return from Hiawatha they stopped at Falls City and sent a telegram to the brides parents announcing the wedding. They arrived at the home of Claude Messinger in time to announce their wedding at the dinner hour. The wedding sure was a surprise to both his brother and the brides parents. The bride had been in school up to the following day of the wedding.
The bride is a second cousin of Mrs. Vennoch. A few months ago the Vennoch's went to Nemaha to visit, Mr. Messinger accompanying them at once developing into a friendship that progressed rapidly culminating in their wedding. The single ring ceremony was used.
In addition to her school work, the bride sang in the Methodist choir at Nemaha and served as treasurer of her class in the Sunday school. Among her friends she is known as a sweet and loveable girl.
Chivalrie crowds from Stella, Verndon and Shubert as well as near neighbors gathered; perhaps seventy-five in all at the Messinger home Monday evening. Treats of cigars and candy were passed.
A good many in the chivalrie party remained to spend the evening. Games and music were enjoyed and congratulations and good wishes extended to Mr. and Mrs. Messinger ********** in many popular songs with Mrs. Lester Vandeventer, Misses Lillie and Alice Jones as accompanists.
A fruit shower was given this young couple on October 25 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Parker at Nemaha by Misses Bessies Squires and Ruth Smith. Those present were the teachers and the pupils of the Nemaha Junior High. About 36 were present and the evening was spent in playing games. The bride and groom were presented with fruit and bath towels. Congratulations was extended by all present.
