[ Low Brass | High Brass | Woodwinds ]

The high brass section consists of higher pitced brass instruments. (hence the name) It is made up of the french horn and the trumpet. The trumpets carry the melody a lot and provide high brass voices. The french horn provides sound that can blend with trombone, saxophone, or trumpet, or can stand out all by itself. (John Gibson) The trumpet is what everyone thinks of when you say "brass". It has a common shape that brass instruments are known for. The french horn, on the other hand, is quite different. Over 20 feet of tubing is curled up into this horn. It is the only brass instrument played with the left hand. Players often take 10 or minutes just to empty the spit, because there is no spit vavle!

Our Point of View:

Trumpet-
We're not egotistical. We are simply the best. Ah yes, the trumpets. Who else could boast such outrageous claims? Yet somehow they manage to back it up. Screamin' above the top of the band with their brilliant, blasting, brassy sound, it is often difficult to hear your own voice in your head whenever the trumpets are rockin' out (with selected body parts out). Known to sometimes knock the first few rows of people seated in the stands flat down onto their butt, they never go unnoticed. Some contend however that they are better known for trying to fit their head through doorways, and failing...but those who say that are often the lower, inferior woodwinds who just wish they could be as hossalicious as us. Led by such greats as Jeremy "Beaker" Baker, Vann "Voss" Piazza, and Danny "the Mac" MacDonald...oh yeah and then there's the infamous Anthony "GuidryVision" Guidry...the trumpets make their presence well known throughout the band. Female trumpeters are often ex-communicated from the section due to their lack of "testicular fortitude" and overabundance of estrogen, but on occasion we do allow the lovable Elizabeth Pavlicek to be confused for one of us. Keeping strong tradition alive such as the Big Blue Cowboy Hat and the world-famous "Jump, Shake Your Booty Dance", and aspiring to former JET trumpets such as Katz, Wallner, Booth, and Hode, we the trumpets will continue in our domination of the band well into the next millenium.
