  • AL MVP in 1928 and 1934.

  • Appeared in 5 World Series, 3 with the A's (1929, 30, 31) and 2 with the Tigers (1934, 35.)

  • Cochrane was such a hot prospect as a minor leaguer that his team's owner wanted $50,000 for his contract. When Connie Mack, A's owner and manager, found out that he could buy the whole minor league team for $200,000, he did so and sold the rest of the players at a profit, keeping Cochrane for himself at no cost.

  • Had one of the most fantastic three year runs that a catcher has ever had. Hitting .331, .357, and .349 from 1929-31.

  • When Mack broke up his A's in 1933, Cochrane was sold to the Tigers where he became player-manager. The Tigers had finished in fifth place in 1933. In his first year, 1934, Cochrane led the Tigers to the World Series where they lost in seven games. In 1935, he took the Tigers to the Series again, this time they won it all.

  • Cochrane was general manager of the Athletics for most of the 40s.

  • Elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1947.

  • Had a lifetime .320 average.

  • Hit .300 or better in nine seasons.

  • Cochrane scored the run that clinched the 1935 World Series for the Tigers. He called it his greatest day in baseball.

  • Cochrane's career came to an abrupt end when his skull was fractured by a pitch from Bump Hadley. He was unconscious for 10 days afterwards. He never played again.
