  • Considered by many baseball historians to be the greatest pitcher in the history of the game. Grove holds the record for winning percentage for pitchers with 300 or more career victories with .680.

  • Led the AL in ERA a record nine times.

  • Went 79-15 from 1929-31, helping the A's to three consecutive pennants.

  • Led the AL in wins 4 times.

  • Won 20 or more games in seven consecutive seasons, 1927-33.

  • Elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1947.

  • Led the American League in strikeouts for nine consecutive seasons.

  • Was the AL Most Valuable Player in 1931 when he went 31-4. His 2.06 ERA that year was two runs below the league average.

  • Grove pitched for the famous minor league Baltimore Orioles for four years, where he went 112-39. Orioles owner Jack Dunn refused to sell Grove's contract to any major league team for quite a while until money problems forced him to accept Connie Mack's offer of $100,600 in 1924.
