1965-7/69-84 Baltimore Orioles

  • Along with Walter Johnson and Lefty Grove, Palmer is the only AL pitcher to win 20 or more games in at least eight different seasons.

  • Won three Cy Young Awards--1973, 1975, and 1976.

  • Clinched the first four pennants in Baltimore's modern history.

  • Had an 8-3, 2.61 ERA record in postseason play.

  • Won 20 games eight out of nine years, 1970-78.

  • Had 10 seasons in which he had a sub-3.00 ERA.

  • Palmer spent just one year in the minors before being promoted to Baltimore in 1965.

  • In 3,984 innings pitched, Palmer never gave up a grand slam.

  • Won four Gold Gloves.

  • Has a 2.86 ERA.

  • After being elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990, Palmer attempted to make a comeback with the Orioles in the spring of 1991. He was not successful.

  • Pitched a shutout in the last game of the 1966 World Series at the age of 20, beating Sandy Koufax 6-0. Palmer is the youngest pitcher in World Series history to throw a shutout.

  • During one nine-year period, Palmer averaged 288 innings pitched a season.

  • Was 22-9 with a 2.40 ERA in 1973.

  • With Palmer leading the staff, the Orioles won their division from 1969-71, 1973-74, and again in 1979 and 1983.

  • Won 23 games with a 2.09 ERA in 1975.
