I've searched for heroes....I suppose we all do
My personal mentors, there seemed to be few
There's healers, believers who've heeded the call
and thousands of soldiers, their name on the wall
I speak not of martyrs who lay down their life,
nor glorious statesmen leading people from strife
for people of wealth I've no praise, no acclaim
I need my own heroes, to give them a name
It's not the high and mighty folk you read about each day
But those you've known and cared for you and touched 'long the way
Still searching for heroes? Phantoms flow through the air
Just look around at what you've found...your heroes are there
An old faded scrapbook there's a rose so brown and dry
Mother saved it from high school, Lord it still makes me cry
A clipping from my sister, I was so far from home
a credit card, some pictures, "Call if you feel alone"
And a picture of my boys...gosh, they were only three
The image of their father, now they worry 'bout me
They grew straight and tall and they remember Mother's Day
They're kind and loving men now..I knew they'd be that way
A simple card from a friend believing that she'll win
"I'm conquering this sickness, you know I won't give in"
Just leafing through that scrapbook, those heroes that I sought
Have been with me my whole life through...I treasure the thought
that it's not the high and mighty folk you read about each day
But those you've known and cared for you and touched 'long the way
Still searching for heroes.... to tell them you care
Just look around at what you've found...your heroes are there
Just look around at what you've found....they've always been there
