On the threshhold of the canyon...he stands in majesty
land of the ancient Navajo...as far as he can see
Seething spirits surface...passions guarded until now
a brief touch of the amulet...becalms his sweaty brow
and the past cries......NIGHTHORSE...NIGHTHORSE

Nighthorse, Nighthorse you're on the run
Where are these unknown feelings from
Summoned from nowhere, going the same
In the future roams the past again

This land once held a challenge...mother nature ruled with pain
defy the wind, enflame the sun...the seasons dry of rain
In the distance he sees riders...on the left graze buffalo
sounds of another lifetime swirl and eddy down below
and the desert moans.....NIGHTHORSE...NIGHTHORSE

Nighthorse, Nighthorse you're hypnotized
Secrets reflected in your eyes
Pledging your honor..... a warrior bold
You are so young...but your wisdom old

His mind's eye sees the hogans and the women working there
a culture only read about...the past is everywhere
I know what they are doing...I've been here before
as braves ride swiftly into camp...mind and spirit soar
and the wind sighs.....NIGHTHORSE...NIGHTHORSE

Nighthorse, Nighthorse, you know it well
Another lifetime...mankind's hell
You stand alone on a windswept land
Weep for a lonely indian band

Soft leathers graze his body...as his senses overflow
the stallion feels a power...man and horse appear to know
Pride surges through his being...from the depths it seems to dare
forgiveness...honor....tribute, with the amulet you wear
and the vision sees.....NIGHTHORSE...NIGHTHORSE

Nighthorse, Nighthorse you're on the run
Where are these unknown feelings from
Summoned from nowhere...going the same
In the future roams the past again
....NIGHTHORSE...........NIGHTHORSE

Music suggestion: Style - This is such a special song for me, I feel it was channeled because I've never written anything like it.
I know this may be a very difficult piece to do Greg, but the music must reflect the feelings in the song. Even without the lyrics I'd like the music to be able to carry the song.
Tempo - Medium to slow tempo (but not draggy) during verses and into a driving (not rocky or heavy) during the chorus. Maybe an undertone but certainly not blatant like "Indian Outlaw". I hear it as almost an anthem reflecting a endangered heritage, a positive image for the Native American.
Vocal - Male Needs a voice with character in it, sort of gravely and compassionate (Waylon or Doug Kershaw even a "gutsy" Garth type - no crooners like are on the country (nee` pop charts right now). I'm not familiar with Ricky Lynn Gregg and Bill Miller, who have the Native American heritage, but Jack Gladstone would be excellent.
Video: Contemporary man standing, legs apart on a mesa looking into a valley, with longish black hair. Dressed in blue jeans, white shirt unbuttoned to show an amulet on a leather thong. Brief vignettes of Native Americans working, playing, hunting, etc interleaved with performer singing in same environment, although not together. During last verse ** morph from contemporary man to Navajo brave on same mesa. (perhaps U S Sen Ben "Nighthorse" Campbell? I think he would do it, he really likes the song) Zoom in to amulet on chest and fade during vocal echo and fade with guitar run.
