For the second year of the Legend of Texas, we have decided to stay with a certain theme that is assosiated with our region's hertiage. This time we are going to look a little farther back than Buddy Holly and 50's rock and roll. This year we are taking a contemporary look at one of the biggest Legends of our time in a program entitled:
DESPERADO: A Day In the Life of a Cowboy
Featuring the music:

Yes western shows have been done before, but never like this! Enjoy!
For our inagugural competitive tour, The Legend of Texas is presenting "Rave On: The Life and Times of Buddy Holly." Our Show has been arranged to depict Buddy Holly's innovative musical style, his popular tour, and the plane crash that tragically took his life. Throughout the 11 and a half minute performance, we tie in Don McClean's song "Miss American Pie," which was written about the legendary Holly. Buddy Holly was a Lubbock native who formed a musical partnership with Bob Montgomery in 1951. They presented the "The Sunday Show" on a local radio station, which resulted in the "Buddy and Bob Show." Soon, they added a bass player and became the supporting acts to major Country and Western performers. In 1955, the trio opened for Bill Haley and the Comets and Elvis Presley. Buddy himself was contracted by Decca records. His first recording did not sell well, but subsequent recordings through Decca's subsidiary "Coral Records," hit number three on the charts in the United States and number one in England. Buddy Holly's popularity skyrocketed. In 1958, he appeared on network television frequently with Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Everly Brothers. His trio toured overseas, returning to cut many records. "Early in the Morning" was a nice style for Buddy. It incorporated a gospel feel and he used female voices for his background. Newly married, Buddy Holly embarked on a tour in 1959 called "The Winter Dance Party" along with Richie Valens, Dion and the Belmonts, and The Big Bopper. Their extremely popular show toured all over the United States. In February of that year, Buddy, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper decided to fly ahead to Fargo, North Dakota from Clear Lake, Iowa. Their plane crashed soon after take-off, killing all on board. Our show is about the Legend: Buddy Holly.
