WINTER GUARD INTERNATIONAL

BRASS ENSEMBLE

Texas

For 2001, in addition to offering young adults music and life-skills education, performance and extensive travel opportunities through the drum and bugle corps, Legend will incorporate three new music education ensembles. New for 2001 is Legend Winter guard, Indoor drumline and brass ensemble. The winter guard and drumline are both to be competitive units in Winter Guard International (WGI) and the brass ensemble will be a local showpiece. All three new organiztions aer similar to a drum corps competition, but instead of a football field, they take place on a basketball court and only incorporate the elements of that ensemble. Unlike drum corps, these ensembles take place from November to April. These new ensembles will keep the same purposes and mission statement of the organization, but allow more members to praticipate as well as keeping our youth activity year round!

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

There are only four requirments to becoming a member of the Legend of Texas: Age, Time commitment/attendance, Financial Responsibility and Attitude. There is NO formal audition piece to become a member of any Legend activities, so audition camps will be of an evaluation style. In addition to being selected by the four requirements, Members will be selected by ability only, but for eagerness to accept instruction and attitude for learning. Although past musical and marching experience help, it is not required!

REHEARSALS/TIME COMMITMENT

Even though the drum corps competitive season is only during the summer months only and the WGI season is February-April, our ensembles have a year round rehearsal schedule. The following is a general breakdown of rehearsal:

NOVEMBER-MAY: Monthly weekend drum corps camps
NOVEMBER-APRIL: Winter Guard, Indoor Drumline and brass ensemble weekly rehearsals
JUNE-AUGUST: Drum corps competitive season
FEBRUARY-APRIL: Winter Guard, Indoor drumline competition

In order for our different units to be successful, members must rely on each other, so it is difficult for members to miss to many rehearsals, or any performance opportunities. We realize there are conflicts such as school related events, so we are somewhat flexible. Because we list our rehearsals and performances months in advance, there is no excuse for surprise event conflicts. One of the membership requirements is attendance, so it is imperative that members are able to handle the commitment of time.

Corps members are expected to be on time to all corps activites. If a member will be late or miss a rehearsal/performance, it is his/her responsibility to notify the staff. We will not accept the word of another member; we expect each member to be responsible for his/her actions.

WINTER ENSEMBLE REHEARSALS

Legend winter guard, indoor drumline and brass ensemble will rehearse from 2-5pm every Sunday from November until April (unless otherwise noted). Location TBA!
