The first time I was told about it,
I was exicited and then started to cry.
The first time I reached out to touch you,
You were hiding behind a wall.
The first time that I sang you a song,
You stopped to listen;
You would dance and sway.
When you came out from your hideaway,
The world for me stood still.
As I lost my breath,
The feeling of Hope, Love,
And understanding of life
Came to mind.
As I heard you cry for the first time,
And, the first time I held you in my arms,
I began to cry as I sang you a lullaby.
The first time I touched you
Was when we both reached out with our hands.
The magic of love filled the room,
With your brother, sister and mom,
Who love you too.
Of all the time I had to wait,
I would do it all over again
And would not hesitate.
Esperanza, these words that I speak to you
Are from your father saying
That I will always LOVE YOU.
