When I first looked into your eyes,
I knew that I had been Blessed.
When I first felt your touch,
I knew it was with lots of love.
When I first was held oh so tight,
I felt safe within your arms.
When I wanted to tell you that I loved you,
The words never sounded right.
When I first felt your kiss,
It made me feel warm inside.
When I first heard you sing,
My thought was the voice of that of an Angel.
When I first walked with you,
You made sure that I would not fall down.
When I first fell down,
You would kiss me
And the pain would magically go away.
When I first went to school,
You started to cry.
I hugged you and kissed you
And said, "It will be all right."
When I first went on my first date,
You drove us.
Then, you said, "It's okay.
I'll sit here and wait."
When I first drove the car,
You would tell me what do to
And how to do it.
When I first wore my cap and gown,
I knew that I had not let you down.
When I first moved you were sad,
I told you that I'd come to see you
And that made you glad.
When I first fell in love
And then my heart got broken,
You were there with your warm hugs
and your magical kisses.
When I first told you I was going to get married,
You gave me your Blessing.
When I first told you that we were having a child,
You cried with joy.
When I first told you that the baby was born,
You were so excited
That you hung up the phone
Before I told you what it was.
When I first saw my baby,
I, too, started to cry
And thoughts of both of you ran through my mind.
Is this the same feeling
That my parents got when I was born?
When I first saw you slipping away,
I could hear your voice
Telling me you were going
To a better place.
And, with all that you have taught me,
I know I have someone to teach
About Love and Life.
