Little Hawk's Nest

Strangers In Our Own Land

As people we cannot walk around the city
without people whispering or pointing.
"Hey! They are Indians!" Or asking,
"Are you an Indian?"

Bullet

So many years our ancestors had to hide our
culture, and still today some of our traditions.
I still remember as a child our grandparents
teaching us some of the old way.

Bullet

Confused growing up being taught in school to be
ashamed of our culture and of our ways,
and to forget our language all the same.

Bullet

Is this right? Weren't our ancestors here first?
Are we not people of this earth
of this land called America?
Home of the free.

Bullet

Why are we still feeling like strangers
in this land of today?
