Nights In White Satin

You knew,
no matter what you did
(go to the football game, the dance, rollerskating, bowling)
that the evening would end and the night begin,
here
down by the river
underneath the railroad trestle.

We'd lay down,
in the back of his station wagon
on my thrift store coat
and looking out (before the windows steamed up)
I could see
the cold black beams of the trestle against the darker infinity of the sky
and the streetlights across the river
always mimicked the icy sparkle of the stars.

And as "nights in white satin" played on the radio
I wanted to stay there forever,
but the song always ended, and I had to go home...

Sometimes when we're visiting for the holdiays
we drive down by the river.
The trestle, the stars, the streelights
they're all still htere
but I'm not
and I want to go home.
Nights in White Satin, after a song by the Moody Blues.

20" wide by 15" high, commercial and hand dyed cottons, satin, metallic threads, mylar, wire, beads, vintage buttons, vintage costume jewelry, dichroic glass pieces, machine pieced and machine quilted.

O - Not the Obvious choice, but the Only One left. Oh, no! The Osmonds, Hawaii Five-O, the O-Jays and Tony Orlando (and Dawn). I started to Obsess, looking for the Obscure to the Ordinary. One idea that would be the Outrageious choice to Objectivity (unlimited in creative power). I meditated.....OM, Optimistic the inspiration would Occur. Suddenly it was Obvious. How could I have Overlooked it? Obnoxious, Ostentatious ORANGE, the color of the 70's. OK, now Ogle my Opus!...........Lesley Riley of Bethesda, MD
