Fairy Tale Foul-Ups

...Directed by Jill Aufill

....Produced by Kayleen Clements

Written by Mike Midler and Jill Aufill

The St. Cyril Theatre Guild did a children's play in 1996 in addition to their usual summer musical. Fairy Tale Foul-Ups was performed in the Parish Hall at the Church before an audience of about two hundred children and many of their parents. There were three matinee performances and several of the Guild members played multiple roles in this production.

Our play included visits from many familiar (but "fouled-up") characters. Snow White, Miss Piggy, Alice (in Bunnyland), The Not-So-Bad Big Bad Wolf, and the 5 Little Pigs were just a few who made an appearance. Some of the others were Little Green Running Hood, her annoying health-nut Granny, our "Supreme" act, Cinderella's ugly (and they were ugly) step sisters who were trying to "shop in the mall for shoes," Prince Charming, Goldilocks, The Tortoise (who was actually a "box turtle"), The Energizer Bunny, and The Brady Kids who, as goats, had a run-in with the Troll. The full cast list is below.

Proceeds from the show went towards the food drive. Children sat in the middle of the Parish Hall on the floor as the actors performed all around them, even involving many of them in some of the scenes. Some got to help Snow White and others learned that they should "never talk to strangers" as Ms. Piggy taught the "Five Little Pigs" that the Big Bad Wolf was not to be trusted.

Although there wasn't much singing, the performers brushed up on their acting skills, had some fun with the kids, and participated in some really "daffy" scenes.

The Guild has discussed doing traditional plays, but until we run out of musicals, we probably won't attempt a major production that is strictly a dramatic presentation. Who knows, one day you're a man (who needs a shave) wearing a dress and singing Motown, and the next....Shakespeare?

Hope you enjoyed your visit....

Come back and see us again....

"Adios" and a "beep beep" to y'all!

And don't be a Tazmanian Devil....
