The St. Cyril Theatre Guild's 1998 Summer Musical, The Wizard of OZ,
was presented in July at Rice University's Hamman Hall.
Dorothy and Toto made their way to meet the Wizard
with the help of Glinda, The Munchkins, The Scarecrow, The Tin
Man, and The Cowardly Lion.
The ensemble cast was challenged to stretch their singing, acting, and dancing abilities
to develop their extremely familiar characters into the Director's vision
of OZ and have the result be a recognizable, yet innovative interpretation
of Frank L. Baum's classic story. After adding the music,
set, and technical effects, what was originally thought to be a "very ambitious
undertaking for community theatre" evolved into a one of the Guild's most successful productions.
The show choreographed by Lisa Ortiz. Our Vocal
Director was Emily Gorman and our Orchestra Director
was Robert Peri.
