ASHLEY McCONNELL | BIOGRAPHY
Ashley McConnell is a former Air Force brat now living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the obligatory writer's cats. She has been a technical writer, a security administrator, and a contracting representative, and has published short stories in Women of the West and Final Shadows. She is particularly proud of the fact that like almost anybody else with the normal assortment of body parts, she can hit the side of a barn door with a grenade launcher.

Once a year, the town of Desolada celebrates death in three ways:

...is the holiday Diane Lassiter celebrated as a child. Before she moved to Desolada. Before she heard the dark stories of the ancient past.

...is the local tradition, when Spanish children eat sugar skulls and honor the dead with family feasts in the graveyard.
DAYS OF THE DEAD
...is the legend no one speaks about. But there are those who still follow the old ways. Who whisper of a time when the earth opens up and the flames of hell feed on the flesh of the living.
