Stoichkov denies he plans to coach Romanian team

SOFIA, Feb 4 (Reuters) - Former Bulgaria striker Hristo Stoichkov denied on Friday he would coach Romania's Universitatea Craiova. ``I will not go to meet anybody...I remain director of the (Bulgarian) national teams,'' sports daily 7 Days quoted him as saying. Romanian soccer agent Ioan Becali announced in Bucharest on Tuesday that Stoichkov, who retired from playing last year, would sign a contract with first division Universitatea Craiova next week. Becali said on Friday the transfer had foundered on demands by Bulgaria's soccer federation for compensation of $150,000. ``Stoichkov was not able to come to Romania for final talks with Universitatea Craiova because Bulgaria's federation asked for a large amount to release him,'' Becali said. Becali said the move could materialise in the summer, when Stoichkov's contract with the Bulgarian federation ended.

Crowds of Romanian journalists are situated around Danube bridge and in the airport in Buccarest. They are all waiting for the appearance of the Bulgarian megastar Hristo Stoichkov.According to the Romanian media there should have been a secret meeting the previous night between Stoichkov and the president of Universitatae-George Ilinka, who has been in Sofia since yesterday morning. The meeting between the two of the should have taken place in the base in Bistritza, because Hristo wanted to see the last training of the youngster national team before their trip to Italy. The manager Giovanni Beccali, who has crossed the border between Romania and Bulgaria, has also been supposed to join them. The reaction of the players of Universitatae, who are on a training camp in the Netherlands, was also made clear. The young players have shivered, when they have understood that one of the best frineds of George Hagi is going to reveal the secrets of the football game for them. The only person, who hasn't been pleased with the news has of course been the current coach of the team Emil Sandoj, but he was clearly realizing, that he has no chance of being a coach,if the Dagger signs a contract with the president of the team.
