When a believer walks "by faith", and "not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7), "he shall not be afraid of evil tidings:"; for 'his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD" (Psalm 112:7) "at all times" (62:8) because he knows that the Lord is "a very present help in trouble". Beloved, we have the assurance that no matter the situation, or circumstances, or problems we go, or are going through, etc., He is always there! The promise, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5), is still true today for every child of God! Although there might be times that "(our) iniquities have separated between (us) and (our) God, and (our) sins have hid his face from (us), that he will not hear" (Isaiah 59:2) when we cry out to Him in our troubles, yet it is also true that He is "good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon (him)" (Psalm 86:5); for "he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and...cast all (our) sins into the depths of the sea" (Micah 7:18,19). So then, having been forgiven and restored back into fellowship with Him for His beloved Son's sake, our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, now we can "draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith" (Hebrews 10:22) to our God, who "is our refuge and strength, a present help in trouble". HALLELUJAH!!!
Now, note what the Psalmist is not afraid of: "Therefore will
not
we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be
carried
into the midst of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be
troubled,
though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof" (vv.2,3).
Perhaps
one will see this only as natural catastrophes, such as earthquakes,
hurricanes,
etc.; and for sure, the believer can be at peace through such things
because
he knows that his God is in control even of the weather. But the
context
of the Psalm has reference to the unbelieving world governments with
their
"wars
and rumours of war" (Matthew 24:6), which can include the
persecution
of God's people. As we see what's happening today in the world with the
'shaking' of governments and political 'storms', it can cause much
consternation
to the believing heart; esp. moreso when we hear how Christians are
being
treated! Still, "the LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is
our
refuge" (v.7), and "he maketh wars to cease unto the end of
the
earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth
the chariot in the fire" (v.9). So, come what may come, whether it
be from nature or politics, "(our) help cometh from the LORD, which
made heaven and earth" (Psalm 121:1ff.). Though we go through much
persecution, though we go through much tribulation, though we go
through
"the
waters" or "the fire" (Isaiah 43:2), "be still, and
know
that (the LORD) is God" (v.10) and He is in control; and in fact,
"there
is a river, the streams whererof shall make glad the city of God,...God
is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and
that right early" (vv.4,5). AMEN!!!
