In November 1861 Confederate diplomats, James Murry Manson and John Siddell sailed from Havana destined to London. The next day their ship was bordered and Murry and Manson, was detained by Captian Charles WIlkes. Because of this violation of international law Queen Victoria, ingnoring her husbands Prince Albert's advice, demanded an offical appoligy and for the diplomat's to be returned or there will be war.
