Character Type: Immensely Powerful Evil Lord
Race: Half Noldor Elf, Half Maia (Balrog)
Weapon of Choice: Broadsword
Gorgoroth was most certainly the most dangerous, the most powerful, and the most influential villain the Heroes ever fought. He was their last, greatest challenge, and very nearly defeated the Heroes altogether... which would have led to the doom of the human race. Gorgoroth had stolen Manwe's Orb of Souls, and had instructed his pet demon, the Reaper, to steal the Gift of the Valar, quite possibly the most powerful artifact which ever saw the light of day on Middle-Earth, and intended to use these two items to build himself an army of souls which would control the human race for him. Hot on the trail of the Gift, the Heroes managed to learn of Gorgoroth's existence (a being so old he has a plain in Mordor named after him), and were forced to track him to the hole he had dug for himself: the farthest of the Six Pales, up against the Gate of the Void itself. After many trials and tribulations, the Heroes, minus a few of their number who had fallen along the way, made their way to Gorgoroth's fortress in the Sixth Pale, and confronted him there. Though two more of the Heroes were slain by Gorgoroth's demon, the Reaper, they managed to fight Gorgoroth himself. In mortal combat with the Heroes, Gorgoroth seemed about to win, when he was defeated, nearly at the end of his spell, by Aranor, wielding the only sword that could slay him: Mormagil, the Soul-Stealer. Gorgoroth was defeated, and the Heroes were thanked by the Valar and returned to Middle-Earth to live out the rest of their natural lives.
