NAME: Risengast the Dragon
TYPE: Dragon
PLACE IN THE QUEST:
Risengast is the name given to the dragon, who for centuries, lived in the bowels of a tower in Annuminas. A massive winged fire drake, Risengast had great horns piercing out from his head, and large, rounded eyes. He had red scales on his back, and gold on his belly, much like the dragon, Smaug. His wingspan reached over fifty feet, allowing him to fly vast distances in a short period of time. Risengast crossed over the Misty Mountains in the early Third Age from his home in a volcano in the Grey Mountains, and due to the rise and intervention of the Witch King of Angmar, was prohibited from returning home. Thus, Risengast went to sleep in deep hibernation beneath the ruins of the city of Annuminas. The criminal, Felnor, who sought to make a trade of some sort for the Gift of the Valar, awaked him in F.A. 5. Risengast must surely have been humored by such a suggestion, and made his first kill of the Fourth Age by driving his giant horns into Felnor's torso. He was disturbed a short time later by the Heroes in search of the Gift of the Valar. After discovering their origin from the city of Fornost, and that the Witch King was no longer in power, Risengast sought to return to his home in the Grey Mountains, but not before burning the city of Fornost to the ground. He escaped to the Grey Mountains with the Gift of the Valar, leading to the Third Segment of the Campaign: The Journey to Mordor, where he was finally slain during combat with the Heroes by a demon under the command of Gorgoroth. His terrifying deeds during his short life in the Fourth Age shall not be forgotten.
