Chapter 17
As the limo pulled up to the circular drive in front of the restaurant, photographers swarmed us. I was in total shock.
"What is all this about?" I asked, really puzzled.
"Umm, well, my dear, these 'wonderful' people are here because of us. They are trying to catch a glimpse of me with you. I am the talk of the Pop world right now. You can see the headlines tomorrow. 'Youngest BSB member hits it off with mystery girl. What is the latest scoop?' " he smirked.
"I am really gonna have to get used to this. This is far more than I expected. I will soon be Mrs. Nickolas Carter and I will probably be hated." I said as I sighed.
Nick noticed my concern and told me, "Heather, I promise, no one will hate you, and no one will get in the way of this relationship. As for the cameramen, just ignore them. Just smile that beautiful smile of yours and you will be fine. Now, are you ready to go eat my love?" he asked impatiently.
"I thought you would never ask!" I said preparing to step out of the limo.
The reporters went crazy! The questions came a mile a minute, and the flashes from the cameras practically blinded me. Despite all the chaos, I was totally amazed at how much these people loved and admired Nick. It was so exciting to be a part of it all. Nick finally got up the nerve to answer a few questions. He looked to me to support him. I did, wrapping my arms around him, holding him in a very passionate way. The crowd oohed and ahhed. The all cried out how sweet we looked together.
"Nick, Nick, Elenor of Bop Magazine here, I was wondering. How serious is this relationship? I think you owe it to your loving fans. Come on, spill the beans." the reporter asked.
"Well, if you must know," Nick looked at me for the proper answer. "This is Heather Lynne. She is…she is my one love and truest friend. I love with her with my whole heart, mind, body and spirit. We plan to marry soon. She is my harmony in life and my complement. I don't know what I would do without her."
Tears started to form in my eyes as I listened to him. He was so sincere, so honest to everyone. The crowd just listened intently and then a voice rose out of the crowd.
"Nick and Heather, I wanted to tell you that I wish you the very best. Nick, just watch our for her…she, she is much more than you bargained for." the voice said, with an evil look to him.
I soon realized who it was and the thought of him being there was frightening. Nick just looked puzzled at the man, then looked at me for an explanation. The crowd of reporters soon gathered around even closer.
"Scott, what are you doing here?" I looked at him with pain in my eyes.
"Well, my dear, I wanted only to warn Nick of who you really were. Have you told him yet? Does he know about your evil side? Your sins? Does he know that you are a murderer???" Scott went on, creating a scene.
"How dare you come here and say something like that! Who the hell do you think you are?! You have no right to be here. Security, could you please escort this man out of here?" Nick commanded.
Everyone in the crowd looked at the two of us, not sure what to believe. "What is this about Heather? She is a murderer?? What??!!" asked one fan. "You bitch! Take your hands off of him! How dare you touch him with those murdering hands!" screamed another.
They started throwing things at the two of us as we tried to enter the restaurant. Nick was upset at the whole scene, and I was scared out of my wits. I was always afraid of my past coming to haunt me, and now, it was all a reality.
Nick tried to convince the crowd that the accusations were false, and that everything that was said was untrue. He finally spoke to the crowd, and told them, "Please, everyone. Listen to me. Heather is not a bad person. She is a wonderful person, and trust me, you have nothing to worry about with her. I love her, and there is nothing that will stop that. Please now, would you mind respecting our privacy, and let us enjoy a dinner to ourselves. Thank you very much, and goodnight." Nick finished, looking at the cameras and waving. Then he escorted me to our table.
Throughout dinner, couples all around us just stared, wondering what the deep dark secret really was. I finally couldn't take it anymore, and got up. "Nick, come on, please, can't you just take me home? I appreciate what you have done, but I feel very uncomfortable. Please, please take me home now." I pleaded.
"Oh course sweetheart. I am so sorry that they have done this." he said softly.
"It's not your fault, it is mine. Scott had no right to be here, but if it wasn't all for my actions, none of this would have happened." I whispered as tears formed in my eyes.
"Don't ever say that Heather. It is NOT your fault. You made a mistake in your life, that is all. It is okay, I am not mad at you or dislike you for it. Honest. Now, let's go home." he finished.
The limo pulled to the front of the restaurant, and that was that. We were on our way home, after such a traumatic evening. I was completely exhausted from the events of the day, and I feel asleep in the limo. My head rested on Nick's shoulder, and he just let me rest. Deep thoughts ran through his head as we rode home. Was this the right thing to do? Should I marry her? Should we even be together? A tear trickled down his cheek as he quickly pushed the thoughts away.
As we got home, he tried to awaken me, but to no avail. Finally, he lifted me out of the car, and carried me inside. He finally laid me down on his bed, and took off my shoes. I stirred ever so gently as he removed my evening gown, leaving me in only my lace slip. For a brief moment he looked over me, with the sweetest smile. He covered me with the satin sheets, and then sat down in a chair beside the bed, watching me sleep peacefully.
