Chapter 34
Nick had only stepped away for a few minutes. When he returned, he noticed that Mike wasn't at his usual spot outside the door. Several nursed had also gathered around my bed. Nick panicked and ran into the room.
"Is she okay?!! What happened?!" Nick said with fear in his voice.
Mike stepped up to Nick and told him to keep back for a moment. The nurses were giving me a sedative to help relax me. Nick didn't understand what had happened and continued to question the nurses every move. Finally a nurse walked over to Nick and explained things.
"Mr. Carter. Heather had fallen asleep and must have had a nightmare about the incident. She started screaming in her sleep and when your security guard came in, he tried to wake her. She was in hysterics when she awoke and this was the only way to calm her down."
"Is she okay? Can I talk to her?" Nick questioned.
"Yes, but give her a few moments. She will be very groggy, because of the sedative. Just talk to her for a few moments and then let her rest." she told him.
Nick walked over and gently brushed the hair out of my eyes, and leaned in and kissed my forehead. "Oh sweetie, I wish I could take this all back, so that you wouldn't have to go through all this pain. I am here for you. Please, just relax. I am here." he whispered softly.
"Nickolas, I have to tell you. I know who it was…and I have to tell you" I spoke, trying to sound coherent.
Nick looked at me with fear in his eyes. He wanted to know who it was…and the police did too. However, Nick had not let the police do anything, until I had woken up. He had only talked to the police in reference to evidence found at the house. He knew that he would have to get away from that house. He allowed the police to rope off the area, until the investigation was done. He knew that what I was about to tell him would help solve the whole mystery as to what happened.
"Heather, just take your time. You don't have to do this right now if you don't want to." Nick said.
"I have to, so listen to me. It was…" I said, breaking into tears. "…it was Scott. He came to kill me because he didn't want me to be happy in life. He said that he wanted me dead for ruining his life." I finished, the tears streaming down my face.
Nick was in complete shock. He couldn’t understand why Scott would want me dead. He knew that Scott was angry and hurt by the whole relationship between the two of us, however, he didn't think that Scott would go to such lengths.
"Oh Heather. God, don't worry, we will take care of this. I will never ever let him get near you again." Nick said, reaching over to hold my hand. He wanted to desperately to hold me in his arms, but that was just not possible right now. Not only did I have a very limited range of motion, but there were more tubes coming out of me than anyone could imagine.
The doctors decided that I needed to rest more, and to keep my stress level down until I was healed. They put me on sedatives (although I argued with them the whole step of the way) to help me relax and sleep. Nick only wanted what was best for me, and although he didn't like the thought of me being on all the medication, he knew it was the right thing.

For two more weeks, I stayed in the hospital recovering. Nick had stayed by me the whole time. He had kept his promise not to leave me. Luckily, I hadn't had more nightmares about the incident, however, I was still frightened at the thought of going back to Nick's house. He knew that the only answer was to find a new place, and so the day before they released me, he had purchased a new home. It was smaller than the other, but very beautiful. It was just right for our future family, and he was sure that I would like it.
The only thing I had left to deal with was the mob of people I knew
were waiting outside the hospital just to catch a glimpse of me.
Mike and Nick had prepared for me to leave from the back of the hospital,
but it was still nerve racking.
