Chapter 48
The video crew had come and gone and we finally had the rest of the week to ourselves. Nick had done a very nice thing for his fans. I was impressed with the emotion he put into his video. The only thing that made me nervous, was that the pouring out of his soul would make the girls cry. I could see it now...
“Backstreet Boy sends hoards of girls into shock as he pours his love life out to them.” John Norris of MTV.
I laughed, but then started to think about the things he said about me. I was stunned. It was just as beautiful as the loveliest poetry in the world. I sat and just smiled at him. We had just settled for the evening and had ordered pizza, but not from Pizza Hut. We had decided that we didn’t like Pizza Hut anymore, for their outrageous remarks made about Papa John’s Pizza. I always believed in sticking up for the little guy, so I asked Nick if he would be willing to boycott Pizza Hut right along side of me. He gladly excepted and then called Papa John’s Pizza to order two extra larger pizzas. (AN: I worked for Pizza Hut, and I am sick of the stupid stuff they do, so in response to their lawsuit against Papa John’s...I have actually decided to boycott P.H.)
As we sat and waited for the order to arrive, we started talking about our vows. We had decided that it would be sweeter to write our own vows for the ceremony. Nick wanted me to reveal to him what I had planned to say, but I wouldn’t even give him the slightest hint. After a short begging spell, he gave up.
“Nick, sweetie, I am sorry, but you need to wait until the ceremony to hear them. It will be so special to wait til then. Please understand.” I told him gently.
“Yes, dear.” He said softly. I knew that it was killing him, but he didn’t want the whole thing ruined by hearing them early.
I told him that I was going to call Dee to check over a few ideas, and to check on how the concert was going. Nick just nodded to me and then said,
“Hey babe, I am going to put in a movie while you talk, okay?”
“Sure, that sounds fine. And, hon, the pizza should be here any moment, could you come and get me when it arrives?” I asked.
“Sure babe.” He replied with a smile.
I went to the back bedroom to give Dee a call. I had felt bad about not getting to say goodbye to her before we left earlier that morning.
“Hey girl!” I yelled into the phone when she answered.
“Heather! I was worried. You didn’t come and say goodbye before you left. I thought I had done something to make you upset.” She said.
“No, no...Nick and I just needed to hurry. He arranged an immediate flight back here to Orlando before management changed their minds about him taking a week off.” I said. “Plus, I think you needed a bit of sleep after your long day yesterday!” I finished as I laughed.
“Oh funny...funny. Just because me and Kevin had wild and passionate sex all day and night didn’t mean you had to leave without telling me.” She said, with a bit of hurt in her voice.
“Oh, I am sorry Dee. I didn’t mean to offend you. Honest. I just really had to hurry and I thought you were sleeping.” I said apologetically.
“Hey, kiddo, there is nothing that would offend me or make me mad at you. Don’t ever forget that. Now, let’s talk about something else.” She offered. “Umm, Nick’s video went over well. The guys are still on stage now, but the crowd is responding well considering their favorite boy is missing. I think they are a bit jealous that you have him, and they don’t.”
“Gosh, I knew this was going to happen. I knew that they would be upset. Please tell me that they aren’t mad.” I said.
“Heather, listen. You don’t need to worry about the fans. They are fine and trust me, the Boys are doing fine out there. You ought to hear them. Brian is singing both his and Nick’s parts, and trying to keep the energy level up. He looks like he is going pass out up there...but the girls are loving every moment of it.” She finished.
I then heard the doorbell ring and figured that the pizza was here.
“Hey Dee, I am going to need to let you go. Dinner just arrived, and well, to be honest, I don’t want Nick to strip the pizza clean again. He has the tendency to attack the pizza and leave me nothing but the crusts...so, I better get going.”
“No prob, sis. You take it easy and give me a call tomorrow. I will be back in Orlando on Wednesday, so, I will see you then. Take care and enjoy the time you have together! Love ya!” she said as she hung up the phone.
I wandered down to the living room and found Nick, just as I suspected, sitting on the couch with one whole pizza box sitting in his lap.
“Did you leave me any babe?” I said, startling him.
“Yeah...yours is over there.” He said, not taking his eyes off the television screen.
At first I thought it was kind of rude that he didn’t even look at me when he answered. But then, I noticed why he had not looked up. I looked to the television and noticed that he had put in the movie Titanic. I then looked back at him and saw tears pouring down his face.
“Oh honey, are you okay?” I asked gently, trying to comfort him.
“I don’t know. I picked up the wrong tape, I meant to put in Aliens, but I accidentally picked up Titanic and put it in. It was at the part where the girl was floating on that wooden panel and the guy was holding on to her, but in the water. It was so sad....” he said, sniffling.
“The girl is Rose, and the guy is Jack.” I whispered.
“Well, whatever, but the guy was going to die...I mean, there was no way he could survive in that water. But, he was telling the girl, what was her name again?” he looked at me.
“Rose.”
“Oh yeah, well, he tells her that she is going to die an old woman, warm in her bed, not there, not then. And, then he makes her promise that she is going to go on and survive. She promises, and then in the end he dies. But, as she promised, she went on and never let go of that promise. And then, then...she dies the old woman and then her ghost goes back to Titanic and is rejoined with that guy...what was him name?” he rambled.
“Jack.” I answered.
“Oh yeah...” he said, looking me in the eyes...tears still flowing.
I reached over to wipe the tears off his cheeks and then gave him a kiss. He then looked me right in the eyes and said,
“Heather, I don’t know what I would do if anything like that ever happened to you. I mean, if you were dying and asked me to make a promise like that, I don’t think I could keep the promise.” He whispered, and then looked down.
Being the romantic and sentimental type, tears started to flow from my eyes as well.
“Oh hon, I wouldn’t be able to go on either. I would be miserable, my life would mean nothing without you, I would be so alone.” I said.
“Yeah...I would be all alone. I couldn’t go on.” Nick finished as he got up and put the box of pizza on the table.
He then walked over to me and kneeled down in front of me. He did the cutest thing I had seen him do, ever. He leaned down right to my tummy, and whispered.
“Little baby, you must promise that if anything ever happens to me, you will take good care of your mommy for me. And, if anything ever happens her, you have to promise that you will keep daddy company and never leave me.”
He then kissed me and then gently placed his hands on my tummy. Suddenly, as if the tiny life inside of me was responding to his words, we felt a very small kick.
“Did you feel that hon!” I said.
“Oh yeah! That was amazing!” Nick said as a huge smile grew across his face.
It was the first time that the little one had decided to make a bit of an appearance and the two of us were totally thrilled! It was the most amazing feeling in the world for us both, and well, we just had to share it with everyone.
Nick called up his mom and dad and was bragging about how his little baby was telling us hello, and well, I called Dee and the guys to spread that good cheer. With that, we spent the rest of the evening on the phone, totally excited. It wasn’t until about midnight until we decided it was time to get some rest.
I rolled over to kiss Nick goodnight, but found him already peacefully
asleep with the slightest smile on his face. I thought it was so
sweet, and rolled back over to go to sleep.
