Gilmer, TX

More info on Gilmer

Our second trip to gilmer was a lot of fun. We went out on Saturday and stayed until Sunday afternoon. I drove from College Station to Plano, met up with Fred and Barret and then out to Gilmer. There was a pretty good turnout there, including but not limited to Garner and Lisa, the ash house gang, Jason, Busa, Scott and Linda, and MANY others. We stayed with Kollins in his pop up camper at Tyler State Park. This was a very nice park, very pretty. We then showed some Land Rover boys what you can do with a $350 Scout Sunday afternoon. I then had to drive to Dallas and then on to College Station all in one day,(boo-hoo) it was a long weekend.

The Dragula, ready to haul Andre's ass all the way to Gilmer.

Of course we pulled an all niter before leaving, and we decided about 5:30 am that the doors had to go. We put a body lift on it and the body was so bad that the doors wouldn't shut anymore. The bars are made out of some gas pipe we had sitting around.

Kollins took us on some off-camber stuff called Clyde's Revenge.

Good place to get some flex shots

It wasn't too far into the day when ANDRE decided to break the gas pedal at the fulcrum on the pedal linkage. Fred was pissed, but soon rigged up a hand throttle using vise grips and an extra stainless steel brake line I had on board. It took some getting used to but worked pretty good, as you will see in the following pictures.

Andre rubbed the 33's with 4" of lift and a 2" body lift, not too bad for Spring under lift springs.

Here is where we tried to keep Barret's hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times. When you feel your vehicle start to get really off camber it is really tempting to try to keep it from rolling with your hand and or foot, bad idea...

Fred driving with his head out of the side like a damn heep driver.

This was the last part of Spider Ravine, or something like that, it was very steep, and Fred once again made the hand throttle ascent look easy.
