Woodward Dream Cruise 2001- Day 1

Dream Cruise Website

This was our second annual trip to The Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. We took my brother in law Benny along with us this time and had a great time. We got there Thursday night in time to watch a few cars and do a little cruising in our awesome Buick Century rental. That baby turned some heads let me tell you. That is why next year we are talking about driving up there. It may be all talk, but it would be a lot more fun to have a car to cruise in. Here are the pics from Friday's events.

Here is the free pic that GM took of us. they took a crappy low res pic of you and then you went to their website to retrieve it.

They have cool billboards for the dreamcruise. "Proof that your parents were actually cool once"

Mark Shipman's patented idea, he should sue.

Duggan's Irish Pub, home of the "Big Chief" We were going to eat there, but the whole place was "reserved" by the company Primedia, the same company that gives us Hot Rod magazine.

'59 Caddy

'91 1LE, he said it was 9,000 original miles, he had a huffer on it as well. He also said it was the original paint, but Fred disagreed.

This guy was a real schmuck. Before fred could even ask the guy what kind of airbags he was running, the jerk started bragging about how it had been featured by Hot Rod at one of their events or something like that. It was a nice car, but he tripped over the finish line, drum rear, only bagged in the front...

I think I saw Rodney Dangerfield drive this car in Caddyshack. It did however have a Northstar motor as featured above.

This is a 'glass bodied car made by Coast to Coast. My brother's boss Wade is building a similar car, very nice.

This little roadster was extremely clean, it had the most aesthetic LS-1 I have ever seen.

I love the 63 Nova convertible and have designs to build one some day with an "upgraded" drivetrain.

Just your typical LS-1, twin turbo'ed, all wheel drive GMC Sonoma, if I had a nickel for everyone of these I've seen...

The back of this car said "This car was seized in a drug Raid" Which made me think of a new anti-drug slogan, "Say not to drugs kids, or the cops will take away your bitchin' street rod"

Another billboard, "Not everyone wants a car with a bud vase on the dash" I think in many ways that sums up a major portion of my life.

New for 2002, roll on "dubs" straight from the factory, ridiculous...

'62 wagon, I want a wagon, SUV room, musclecar styling...

Woodward was not without outlandishly lifted trucks as this one illustrates.

classic flames

fotie

I liked the green with tan top combo for some reason...

Scout sighting, and it wouldn't be the last, there were more than I thought would be there, including an elusive bobbed one. I never got a chance to check it out up close, it cruised by twice, but I never saw it parked anywhere. That happens when you have 16 miles of car show.

This was taken just so that I could use Wade's famous "Fred you been doing some work on the side" line. Those flames are hideous, I think the special ed program must have painted them. It did sound pretty mean, but it was ugly as hell.

'67 mustang? maybe a '68, hell if I know it is a F*rd...

another "Big'un"

Nice Hummer...

Factory side pipes, a little known option...

Dodge with the "universal" torque thrust II's, without a doubt that is the new wheel that everybody who is anybody runs.

Super Scout

wide whites

Three wheel motion to end our Friday at the Dreamcruise.
