The Sorceress War
By NaaroYoshi
Epilogue
The Karmali were in a great struggle to live. First, they were banished from the green lands of Yoshin and into the Forbidden Lands. Then, the sorceress Ultimoshin and her fellow YoshiSorceresses, also banished to the Forbidden Lands, began to attack the Karmali. In a great battle, the YoshiSorceresses were directed at the lands of Yoshin by a Karmali diversion. This began a struggle between the yoshies of the Yoshin lands and the YoshiSorceresses known as the Sorceress War. In the words that follow, the history of the Sorceress War is explained. Our story begins with a recruit fresh out of the Yoshitopia Academy, known as Private Maxwell Tharasa.
Chapter I: An Unlikely Soldier
"Uuugh...give me five more minutes," said Maxwell as his superior, Col. Raflin, tried to awaken him. "Come on Tharasa, we need to get to the front, before the YoshiSorceress troops break through!" Maxwell lie motionless, sprawled on the cot. ".....WAKE UP MAXWELL!!!!" Raflin shouted. Maxwell didn't even flinch. "Ok...Miss Elia, please wake him up for me," Raflin said to a scarlet-eyed, pink-skinned yoshi in a scientist's coat and wearing glasses who was walking by. "All right sir," Elia replied as she entered and walked over to Maxwell. "Wake up sleepyhead," she said with a smile. "Unnh...huh?" Maxwell awakened to see Elia's face. "Oh...uhh, Miss Elia!" Elia giggled. Maxwell had had a crush on Elia since the day he was transferred to Raflin's camp. He figured she knew, and that was why she giggled whenever he acted funny around her, because she knew he was making yet another pitiful attempt to impress her. Still, he thought he might still have a chance with her. "Come on Tharasa, get dressed and get your weapon!" Raflin ordered. After hesitating, Maxwell went to dressing and got his weapon, only saying "Yessir!" as he did. He headed out to the battlefield.
Chapter II: A Great Success
"It's about time you got here!" shouted the frontline sergeant commanding the group. "We've been needing another soldier to complete the attack party. I know you'll be totally willing to help, right?" "But si-" "Good!" The sergeant pushed Maxwell into a group of soldiers. "Urrgh..." Maxwell pulled out his titanium sword, and prepared to fight. "CHARGE!!!!" shouted the sergeant, and the group rushed forward, taking Maxwell with it. A giant beast resembling a wolf-like Scyther hacked two soldiers to pieces. "These guys are vicious," Maxwell thought to himself. All of a sudden, two of the creatures popped out of the ground and charged Maxwell. In a panic, he wildly swung his sword, killing them both. The group of soldiers, noticing how easily Maxwell defeated the creatures, ran at the army of wolven Scythers and did the same as Maxwell. They defeated the entire army, and the YoshiSorceress fled, cursing in yoshian tongue. The sergeant was elated. "You...you did it! Maxwell, you helped us win! You'll get a promotion for this!" Maxwell's chin nearly dropped to the ground. "What? How'd I help?" "You showed the others how to attack! Col. Raflin will be pleased!" Maxwell scratched his head, thinking, "Are these guys mental or what?"
Chapter III: Sword Versus Sorcery
"Maxwell led our troops to victory?" inquired Col. Raflin, rather skeptical. "What was the enemy, a giant group of hot dogs?" "No sir!" responded the sergeant. "The enemy was vicious! Maxwell led the attack group to victory! I recommend sending him to battle the YoshiSorceress Mevin!" "Mevin?! The YoshiSorceress Leader?! Are you crazy?" "No sir, I am quite sane!" Maxwell looked at the sergeant, then at Col. Raflin. "Don't I get a choice in this?" Maxwell thought. "Well...ok," said Col. Raflin. He turned and faced Maxwell. "Corporal Tharasa, you are to duel with Mevin, the YoshiSorceress leader, at 0600 hours. Return to your quarters and rest up." "Uhh...yessir." Maxwell returned to his tent and rested up. At 0600 hours, he took his father's sword, his armor, and his shield, then headed out to meet Mevin. Instead he met Elia. "Hey Elia." "Hello. You're the one I'm supposed to spar, right?" Maxwell's eyes widened in surprise. "Elia? You're...Mevin?" Elia transformed into a richly-decorated YoshiSorceress. "Yes, I am Mevin," she said. "Now, prepare for the grave, young Maxwell!" Mevin flung 7 fireballs at Maxwell. He blocked with his shield, and debated whether to attack or guard. Mevin created a giant icicle above his head, and dropped it. Maxwell dodged, and charged at Mevin. She disappeared, and hit him from behind with a water blast. Maxwell skidded along the ground. Mevin drew a dagger and leapt at him in a rage, igniting the dagger with flame. Maxwell knocked the dagger from her hand with the shield and lunged at her with his father's sword. Mevin dodged, and used a lightning bolt on the sword. Maxwell, to his surprise, was not electrocuted, but instead, the sword was powered up. Maxwell, seeing his opportunity, leaped high, and brought the sword down on Mevin with fury. It slashed her forehead as well as cut off the arm she put up in defense. Mevin fell backwards in shock. Maxwell stepped back, and sheathed his father's sword. But it was not over.
Chapter IV: A Warrior's End
Mevin looked at Maxwell, her once-scarlet eyes now pale and dead. "You...are good..." Mevin said to Maxwell. "But...not...good...enough..." with her dying breath, Mevin summoned up a giant iceberg. With her last amount of energy, she flung it at Maxwell. Maxwell tried to block, but it was too late. The iceberg smashed into him, and he was flung backward. The iceberg still chased after him. It raised itself into the sky, preparing to squish Maxwell. Maxwell, with bruises, broken bones, and cuts, struggled to unsheath his father's sword. "This one's for you...Dad!" He leapt at the iceberg, fire collecting around his father's sword. He pulled it back, preparing to strike. When he reached the iceberg, he slashed with all of his strength, shattering it in two and melting it. Rain fell upon the ground, washing away the blood from Mevin's body. Maxwell's eyes closed, totally exhausted from the battle, and he fell toward the ground. As he neared it, a giant icicle erupted from the ground. Maxwell fell upon it, and he was impaled. The entire area was serene and quiet, the tide of war subsided. The Sorceress War...was over.
Epilogue
The Sorceress War had ended with Maxwell's relative victory over Mevin, but it had come at a price. Besides Maxwell, over 86,000 yoshian soldiers had been killed or wounded in the war. Col. Raflin went on to become a prestigious general of the Yoshian Armies. The YoshiSorceresses went into hiding, and stayed like that until the Karmali's return to the lands of Yoshin. The planet of Yoshin never saw another war.
