MARY HOYER Part III

Alice Blue Pinafore

A cute cotton dress with separate pinafore that can be worn with other dresses. Lace trimmed. Kits include matching shoes.
This has always been one of my favorite outfits. I must have given away the organdy pinafore, though. I could only find the white dotted swiss one.

Terry Cloth Beach Robe With Sunglasses

Completed costume made of Terry Cloth with contrasting trimming. Sunglasses - 25 cents.
When I was making this, I couldn't find any terry cloth that "felt" like the old fabric, so I used really, really cheap 100% cotton washcloths from the old Woolworth's Store before it closed years ago. The orange bias binding is old. I think it had a price of 10 cents on it. The sunglasses were purchased at Katz Drug Store in the fifties. I thought she needed a beach towel, so I made her a matching one.

Shorts And Halter

Cotton halter and shorts in matching cotton.Available both as a kit and a pattern.
This little halter is really odd looking off the doll. It just looks like a piece of looped fabric similar to the looped red, white, and blue ribbons seen now. I added the pic of the doll standing so you could see what it looks like. Both shorts and halter close in the back with a snap.

Sun Bonnet Sue

A CHILD'S SEWING KIT

First in a Series of Patterns Designed by MARY HOYER
This educational kit, first in a series designed by Mary Hoyer, contains everything to make the SUN BONNET SUE OUTFIT, including illustrations and instructions - so simple your child can make it! Here is her first lesson in sewing - learning to do something for herself - something worthwhile. It's economical, too!
I have made several of these, and I don't think they are THAT easy....

Scotch Plaid Jumper and Blousette

Scotch Plaid Jumper and Blousette. Note the doll's plaid handbag and the matching child's handbag, both of which could be purchased separately.

I remember getting this outfit for Christmas. It has always been a favorite of mine. I don't remember if I had the child's purse or not, but I do remember having a purse that had the neat slotted coin holder.

McCall 1564 Ballerina
For the Mary Hoyer Doll

I have made only the sunsuit and the ballerina outfits from this pattern. I have given all the sunsuits away, but here is the ballerina. The edging I used for the panties is a terry cloth bias tape and much too clunky for the outfit. This was made in the early 80's. Mary Hoyer advertised extensively in McCall's Needlework & Crafts magazine throughout the fifties.

McCall 1891 Dress and Peignoir with Nightgown
For the Mary Hoyer Doll

The plaid dress is made for and modeled by the 18" Gigi. The nightgown and peignoir are modeled by two 14 inch Mary Hoyer dolls. You sometimes find this particular set with the Mary Hoyer label. Of course, all her kits and patterns were also available as labeled clothing.

Yoke Coat for Dolly

This outfit was made by lkmt here on ebay, and she knitted it from a part wool yarn that is heather blue. "The sweater is based on a Hoyer coat design that dates from before she designed her own dolls. So it was originally made to fit one of her daughter's dolls who was chubbier than the 14" slim-bodied doll that she gave her name to later. She worked with the pattern so it fits Mary now. The round yoke is done in a textured garter stitch that matches the bottom of her skirt. There's a pair of matching panties underneath Mary's skirt and it is all completely washable." Her Mary Hoyer is doing the modeling.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

The following two outfits were made using the patterns in Storybook and Heavenly Doll Costumes by Mary Hoyer, published in 1988. In this soft cover book are the Fairy Tales patterns, the patterns for the planets - Miss Mercury, Miss Earth etc, nightie, jammies, slips, panties, stockings, shoes, and mules. It is a nice addition to the original book.Nothing is duplicated. I don't know if it is still in print.

Hansel

Wearing short pants with shoulder straps trimmed in attractive braid and a long sleeved white shirt, Hansel was next to arrive at the party.

My compo R&B with cut hair is doing the modeling for this outfit.

Gretel

Ready to rescue her brother from all the pretty girls, Gretel arrives looking pretty as a picture. She is wearing a full Tyrolean skirt trimmed in white cotton lace and her shoulder straps are trimmed exactly like Hansel's. Her puffed sleeved white blouse .... complete her ensemble. The blouse has three little pleats down the front.
