Note: This is a sequel.in a manner of speaking to "The Awakening"...If you haven't already read it, you may want to consider doing so first. You can find it in the Library at the Brides of Kane and also at The Bonfire on Lashana's Ranch.

For all the legal reason, previous stated on other stories, here goes: The following is complete and utter fiction. This stuff came out of my head. All wrestlers are the property of WWF and Titan Sports. I do not claim that anything here has, could or would ever happen in reality. Brides' names are used with their permission.

SHADOWS

Aidan sat quietly in her seat on the plane, waiting for it to start taxying down the runway. The folders and documents in her lap momentarily forgotten as she watched the other passengers fighting with carry on bags looking for their seats.

The fasten seat belt light switched on at the front of the plane and the attendants began giving the instructions that she new by rote. As the plane headed out onto the runway, she pulled out the first of several folders that her boss had overnighted to her. In these folders, she would find background information for her new client, as well as her hotel information and directions to the meeting location.

She had received a phone call from her boss just 48 short hours ago, telling her that she was to be on a plane to Houston TX this morning to meet with a new, very high profile client. He didn't tell her who the client was, so she was of course terribly curious to see who she was going to be meeting with later that afternoon.

As she flipped through the pages in the folder, glancing over the travel arrangements, and other less important information, she finally found the first in a series of background documentation. She nearly dropped the folder when she read the name of the company across the top of the page. She was headed to the Houston Offices of the WWF. She flipped through the rest of the documentation in record time, mostly because this information was old hat to her...she had been a fan since she was a little girl. She spent most of the flight wondering what on earth the WWF could possibly be needing with a PI service. She had spent so much time lately tracking down cheating spouses, that she made a mental note to thank the boss for assigning her to something that could prove to be a very challenging case.

She put the folders back into her briefcase when the plane finally began its descent and re-fastened her seatbelt. She waited in her seat until most of the other passengers had deplaned, the stood and stretched her 5'3" frame, picked up her brief case and headed out into the busy airport. She had always loved airports, being a people watcher and she strolled her way down to the baggage claim and then over to the rental agency to pick up her car. She looked at her watch and realized that she was a little later arriving than they had anticipated.

~Great, I guess I'll just go straight to my meeting. No time to freshen up now.~

She tossed her bags into the trunk of the car and pulled the directions out of the folder in her brief case, heading to Titan Towers, with no idea of what lay ahead.

Vince looked at the clock, realizing that the Private Investigator he had hired would be arriving an moment. He had been reviewing some talent that they were wanting to bring in to the WWF a little further down the road and had nearly lost track of the time. He straightened the folders on his desk and turned off the video, showcasing some of the matches they had performed in, just as his secretary buzzed him.

"Mr. McMahon...I have Aidan McDonald to see you."

He settled himself back behind his desk, "Thanks Sharon...send him in."

The door opened and as he looked up his jaw nearly dropped to the floor. Standing before him was a woman who couldn't have been much more than 5' tall, and although she was athletically built, she was very tiny. She was dressed in a fairly conservative pant suit that had obviously been tailored to fit her.

She walked straight toward him and smiled, holding her hand out to him. "Mr. McMahon, its nice to meet you, my name is Aidan McDonald. The agency sent me."

Vince, still reeling, stood and shook her hand, "Ms McDonald, I ...um well there must be some sort of a mistake here." He started flipping through the information that the PI agency had sent him, wondering how he could have missed the fact that she was female.

Aidan chuckled, she had been a student of human nature for a long time, and she could read people pretty well, "Let me guess...you were expecting a man?"

His head snapped up, looking at the tiny woman in front of him, "Well, actually yes."

~Oh boy,~ she thought, ~ here we go again!~ But she smiled, nodding her head. "Most people assume from my name that I'm male. I guess my dad wanted a son, so he named me that way. I'm pretty used to it."

"Well, I'm going to be completely honest with you, Ms McDonald."

"Please call me Aidan."

"Ok, Aidan, I just am not sure that you're going to be able to help me."

"Well, here's the deal...most of our male employees are tied up in other cases, and it would probably take another three or four weeks to get someone else out here. I'll tell you what, you tell me what the problem is and I'll let you know if I can help or not."

Vince leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers and thought for a moment. "All right, I guess it couldn't hurt to give you some basic information. We've been having some problems behind the scenes for a few months now and they just seem to be getting worse. I need to find out who's behind it."

Aidan pulled out her notebook and started taking notes on what he told her. "At first we just thought it was a fan causing trouble, but now I'm not so sure. Things have turned up missing or been destroyed, letters have been left in some dressing rooms, threatening not only the wrestlers, but their family. Then, last week, one of the set crew was hurt when someone set off a pyro prematurely."

She sat back and thought about what he had said. "Have you contacted the police? This sounds like more of a matter for then, than a PI agency."

Vince shook his head, "I really don't like to have the police get involved in my business. Things in the wrestling business run a little differently than most other companies, and having the police involved just generates bad publicity and gives the ‘censors' more ammunition."

"I can understand that. So what exactly did you have in mind for us to do?"

Vince sat back in his chair, "Well, I was thinking that I would put someone in, undercover so to speak, to see what they could find out. I was hoping they would send me someone that I could set up as a referee or an announcer, but I can't do that with you. Let me think about this tonight, and I'll get back with you in the morning, ok.?"

Aidan smiled, "Sure, no problem at all...here's my cell phone number. Just give me a call when you know what you want to do."

She picked up her briefcase, shook his hand and headed out the door. She smiled at his secretary and walked toward the elevator. When the door opened, she was nearly trampled by a large mass of muscle that rushed out of the door in a huff. One of them reached out to steady her and smiled, "Sorry Ma'am". She got on the elevator, stunned slightly at having just been nearly run over by the members of D-generation X. As she watched them all head to Vince's office a stunning woman walked off the elevator. She smiled at Aidan and gave her kind of a curious glance, then groaned as DX walked right past Vince's secretary and headed straight to the boss's office.

**********

DX busted into Vince's office in a huff, "Dammit Vince, you have got to do something about this!"

Vince looked up and sighed, "Now what?"

"Look Vince, you know we love Leah to death, but she is being run ragged trying to coordinate all of our schedules. No one person can handle all of that! We've got two different signing sessions in two different parts of the country at the same time, and Leah can't go to both, so two of us are going to have to go alone!"

Vince looked up as Leah walked in, rolling her eyes at the whole scene, causing him to chuckle. "Leah! How are you?"

"I'm fine Vince...the boys are making me crazy, but other than that I'm fine." The members of DX all stood there looking at Vince like little boys waiting for their father to decide who gets to play with their favorite toy. Vince smiled at the group, and then looked at Leah, and idea forming in his head.

"Leah, I've got an idea that I want to run by you."

She sat down in a chair and waited, "Ok...what are you thinking?"

"Well, I've just hired a new woman, another personal assistant, and I was thinking of giving her two members of DX. That would free you up a little and eliminate most of this current problem."

Hunter walked over behind Leah and put his hands on her shoulders, "So which of those two are you going to give to her?" The three other members started fussing.

"Hey why do you think you get to keep her? Maybe she wants to keep two of us and give you away!"

Leah sat in the chair and chuckled, watching them fight over her like she was some sort of a pet, until she had reached her limit. "ENOUGH!" Every one in the room stopped and looked at her. "Vince, I think it's a great idea. My suggestion would be that you give her the New Age Outlaws, simply because it would make no sense any other way." She looked at the rest of DX, "Of course I'm going to keep Hunter you idiots...he's my husband!"

Vince smiled, impressed with the way she dealt with this group, glad once again that he had brought her in as their PA. "Ok, then its settled. I'll call her in the morning and let her know that she'll be working with you two," he looked at Billy and Jesse, "Just be sure to be on your best behavior. Now, I have work to do, so out!" They all headed out the door, Leah bringing up the rear, feeling once again like she was herding elephants in a china shop.

Xpac was rubbing in the fact that he got to stay with Leah, while the New Age Outlaws were threatening bodily harm to both Hunter and Xpac. Leah just stood back and watched the crew, feeling a little sad at the prospect of not working with all four of them again, even though she knew that it was the right decision to make. Trying to coordinate all four of their schedules had been exhausting, not to mention the added strain it was putting on her marriage to Hunter. He wasn't terribly fond of her spending so much time with Billy and Jesse, so she was sure this would help at least a little.

Hunter was watching her from across the elevator, and she smiled at him. As much as they argued and fought, she loved him with all her heart. When he winked at her she chuckled and as the door opened, he pulled her to his side and they walked arm in arm out of Titan Towers.

**********

Aidan sat, watching television in her hotel room. She had slept fitfully most of the night, although it was pretty typical of any first night in a hotel room for her. It seemed like it took her body a night or two to adjust to being in a new bed before she could get comfortable enough to sleep. When she woke up at eight am, she rolled over and flipped on the T.V. She figured she had plenty of time to relax a little and then get cleaned up before Vince called. She had a sinking feeling that he was going to tell her that he didn't think she could help, but she was waiting nonetheless for his call.

The phone rang, and she figured it was the boss, checking in to see how the job was going, so she grabbed the phone and answered without really thinking.

"Yellllow!"

"Um, Ms. Mc...I mean Aidan?"

She sat up straight in the bed, hearing Vince's voice on the other end. "Oh, Mr. McMahon. I'm sorry I didn't expect to hear from you quite this early."

"It's no problem, and if you're going to be working for me, you probably should start calling me Vince, all the PA's here at the company do."

She sat there stunned for a moment, not quite understanding what he was saying, "Excuse me...what exactly is a PA?"

He chuckled on the other end of the line, "I'll tell you what, why don't you come to the office and I'll explain everything to you. How soon can you be here?"

She looked at her reflection in the mirror, noticing that her tossing and turning had done serious damage to her wet hair last night, "Well, I just got out of bed, so I guess I can be there in about an hour. How's that?"

"An hour it is, I'll see you then."

She hung up the phone, wondering what on earth he had come up with. Obviously he decided that there was a way to work it out, but she couldn't for the life of her come up with an explanation for the PA term he used. Just as she was heading to the shower, her phone rang again.

"Aidan McDonald."

"Well...we're up and moving early this morning!" She sat on the bed, listening to her boss on the other end of the line. "Morning David...I'm actually getting ready to go and meet Vince McMahon again this morning, what can I do for you?"

"So things are going well? That's good to hear."

"Well they are now...but David, you have GOT to start telling these people I'm a woman. I get really really tired of the same reaction at every meeting...'gee I thought you were a man'. It gets a little old after awhile."

David chuckled, "I'm sorry Aidan...I'll try to remember next time. So do you know what the problem is yet?"

"No, just got some basic info yesterday. I'll email you my notes and let you read them yourself. I've got to run though or I'm going to be late. Talk to you later."

"Bye Aidan...talk to you later."

She jumped in the shower and managed to get dressed, put her make up on and did her hair in record time. She was even a few minutes early when she walked into Vince's office at Titan Towers. Vince looked up as she walked through the doors.

"Good morning, Aidan...did you have a good night?"

She shook his pro-offered hand and smiled, "Well, as good as can be expected in a new hotel room. Takes me a couple days to get settled sometimes."

He offered her something to drink, and then they sat down to discuss the particulars of this assignment. "Ok, here's the deal. I came up with this idea yesterday, and I think it will work beautifully. Several of our top wrestlers have PA's, Personal Assistants. These assistants take care of their travel arrangements and schedules and are also responsible for making sure they get to their appointments on time."

Aidan nodded, her mind whirling away looking for potential problems with this idea as he continued to speak, "It was brought to my attention yesterday, just after you left that one of our top PA's was seriously overloaded. She has been coordinating four of our guys for the last year or so and its just too much for one person to handle. I've decided to bring you in as a PA and assign two of her guys to you."

She sat back in her chair, pondering this idea. "Ok, so I work as a Personal Assistant to two of your top wrestlers. I would assume that this would give me a freedom of movement backstage, allow me an opportunity to meet the other people and see what I can find out. It sounds like it might work."

Vince nodded, glad that she had been so quick to pick up his though process, "We'll give you an apartment at the Titan Complex. A lot of the single wrestlers, and even some of the couples stay there. That's where Billy and Jesse live when they're not on the road, so you'll be in close proximity. Of course your travel will be paid for by the company, and we'll even compensate you, above and beyond the PI fee that we're paying, since you'll actually be working for us."

She nodded, "Ok, so when do I meet these two guys, and where do I get their travel and scheduling information?"

"Well, I figured we'd get you set up in the complex, and then have a meeting with everyone involved...I'm sure that Leah will be a big resource for you until you get a handle on their schedules. I took the liberty of calling the complex and getting your apartment for you," He opened his desk drawer and pulled out a set of keys, "These keys will get you into the complex and into your apartment. Sharon can get your id made outside, you'll need to show it to the guard before he'll let you in."

Aidan placed the keys in her handbag and nodded, "Ok, so I have one more question...who exactly am I going to be working with?"

"Oh, yeah, I guess that would be helpful information wouldn't it. Billy Gunn and Jesse James, the New Age Outlaws. Leah had been handling DX and this seemed to be the best way to split their work. She will continue to handle Xpac and of course her husband Hunter. Why don't we plan to meet back here tomorrow morning about nine am. I'll have Sharon inform Leah and DX that they need to be here."

"You got it. I'll see you in the morning Vince."

She walked out of his office and after she had filled out the necessary paperwork and had her picture taken for her ID, she headed to her car. The excitement she felt at being able to really put her PI training to use for something besides tracking down someone's cheating spouse or runaway teen made her blood pump. She was finally going to have an assignment that would challenge her.

She headed back to the hotel, grabbed her belongings, checked out and headed to the Titan Complex, following the instructions that Sharon had given her. She pulled up at the Security Guard booth and showed her ID. He pointed her in the direction of the buildings off to the left, telling her that she would find her apartment in the third building. As she drove, she looked around. They had what appeared to be a small city inside this complex. She passed a grocery store, an office building and a gym. There were several other buildings off behind the office building, but she couldn't tell what they were by looking at them. Everything was done in black glass and steel, and when she pulled up in front of the building that the guard had indicated, she sat in the car looking at her surroundings for a minute or two.

It took her two trips between the door of the building and her car to get her bags out of the trunk and walked up to the door. ~please, please let there be an elevator in this building.~ She thought. The keys that Vince had given her were still tucked in her hand bag, so she had to put her luggage down to fish them out. She dropped them on the ground, and swearing at herself for being so clumsy, she bent down to pick them up. Just as she was standing up again, someone opened the door and knocked her right in the head. She landed on her tail there in front of the building and sat there holding her head for a minute waiting for the spots in her eyes to fade.

"Oh my god.. Are you ok?" There was a woman talking to her at her left. She had squatted down next to her and had a hand on her shoulders.

She saw a pair of black boots in front of her and she looked up, finding a pair of black and red clad legs and then continued looking up from her place on the concrete. Eventually she met found the man's face, well it was more like a mask, standing in front of her with his head cocked slightly to the right. She recognized him as Kane, and wondered briefly why he was wearing his ring attire in the middle of the day. She looked to her left at the woman who was obviously concerned about her.

"I...um...yeah, I'm ok. Just got knocked a little silly for a minute." Kane reached his hand out to help her up off the ground and she stood, feeling like a midget next to this monster of a man. "My name is Aidan."

The woman shook her hand and smiled, "My name is Storm and this is Kane. Aidan, that's a very pretty name, what does it mean?"

Aidan smiled, liking this woman instantly, "It's Greek for ‘little fire'. It's nice to meet you, although I would have preferred to meet under other circumstances." The women both laughed as Kane stood there watching them. Storm looked at Kane and then at the luggage that was laying on the ground, "Well, Aidan, can we help you with your luggage?"

"Oh, that would be wonderful, if you have time. I was not relishing the idea of making two trips to get it all inside." Kane reached down and picked up the two big bags that sat on the sidewalk, and Storm and Aidan both carried the smaller two as they went inside and took the elevator to the fourth floor.

"So, Aidan, what exactly are you going to be doing for the WWF? I assume that you're new, since I don't remember seeing you around anywhere."

She smiled, "Yeah, I'm new. Actually Vince just hired me today. Apparently they need someone to take over as PA for the New Age Outlaws." Storm nodded, "Leah had said something to me about that last night at dinner. Good luck...those two can be a handful sometimes."

Storm looked back at Kane for a minute and then back at Aidan, "Well, we have to get going. Welcome to the WWF family. I'm sure I'll be seeing lots of you, so if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."

"Thanks Storm, and you too Kane. I appreciate all your help." They left her to herself to explore her apartment. It was beautifully decorated, with lots of black and silver everywhere. The big glass windows on the east side of the building would allow her plant to get some great morning sun, and she was already mentally rearranging the furniture to suit her personal preferences. She drug her suitcases into the bedroom, smiling when she saw the wrought iron king-size canopy bed in the middle of the room. She started hanging clothes in the walk in closet and putting her other clothes in the dresser drawers. ~a person could get used to living like this~ she thought, then reminded herself that this was not a permanent thing...she would only be here as long as it took to figure out who was sabotaging the WWF.

She walked into the bathroom to put her toiletries away, and sighed when she saw the oversized bathtub with the Jacuzzi jets. ~yep, this is a small slice of heaven. I must have done something to make someone very happy to get an assignment like this!~ She finished putting her things away, and then pulled out her lap top to starting making some notes to send to Bryan back in the New York office.

******

Storm and Kane headed toward Austin and Lashana's house where they were supposed to have dinner with everyone else. They pulled up in front of the house and noticed that Jakx, Taker, Leah, Hunter and Alex were already there.

~I told you we'd be late!~

Storm looked at Kane and smiled, "I know Kane, but since I nearly killed the poor girl with the door I figured the least we could do was help her get her luggage inside!"

~Well, when Lashana fusses about dinner being cold, you get to take the blame.~

Storm chuckled, "Ok you big baby, I'll tell her it was my fault! Let's get inside before we're any later."

They knocked on the door and walked in when Austin hollered that it was open. Lashana walked into the foyer and stood with her hands on her hips, getting ready to fuss about them being almost an hour late. Kane cut her off before she even got started, ~It's Storms fault. She tried to knock some woman out with the door at the complex and we had to help get her luggage inside.~

Storm laughed, as did all of the other girls. Lashana stood there shaking her head at the two of them, "What do you mean Storm tried to knock some woman out with the door?" They all headed into the kitchen as Storm related the story of what had happened when they ran into the new girl at the complex.

Leah looked at Storm, laughing, "You nearly knocked her out? Great...just when I thought I was going to get some help, you go and knock her senseless...she'll probably take the next plane out just to get away from us all! What did you say her name was?"

Storm looked at Kane, trying to remember the girls name, "Andrea, Andy...no it was an unusual name..she said it meant ‘little fire' in Greek."

Lashana's head snapped up and she looked at Storm, "Aidan?"

"Yeah that's it...how did you know that?"

She looked at Storm, and then around the room, "When I lived in Louisville, I had a sister...her name was Aidan."

~Lashana, could this person be your sister?~

She looked at Kane and shook her head, "Surely not, what are the odds of my little sister coming to work for the WWF as a PA? It must just be a coincidence."

Steve walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her, "Baby, when it comes to you, there is very little that I ever believe is just coincidence!" Everyone laughed and she shook her head, giving Austin a look that said he'd pay for that later.

"Well, anyway...We need to eat before dinner gets any colder." Lashana turned to go to the kitchen her mind on the family that she had left behind a year ago when she discovered that she not only had special talents, but that she was a Bride of Kane. She knew that they were not really her family, that she had only been raised by them in an attempt to keep her safe until she grew up, but she loved them anyway. She had left them and not contacted them for their own good. She knew full well and good what kind of danger they could be in once they were linked to her.

~Lashana, are you ok?~ She looked over her shoulder at Kane who was standing in the doorway to her kitchen. He always did have a link straight to her heart it seemed, and even when she didn't admit to herself that something bothered her he always seemed to know. ~Yeah, Kane, I guess hearing that name just brought up some old memories. I'll be fine though.~He nodded, understanding her need to deal with these memories on her own and went back to the dining room. Steve had picked up two of the serving dishes and was getting ready to take them to the dining room, Lashana picked up the main course and followed him through the door and they enjoyed an evening together as a family.

After dinner they all settled in to the livingroom and talked about the upcoming events, and travel plans that they had. Lashana went into the kitchen to make coffee and Alex followed, offering to help. Once they were in the kitchen, Alex stopped and looked at Lashana. "Ok, tell me what's bothering you."

She turned from the coffee pot and looked at her, "I'm fine Alex, really!" Alex just stood there, eyebrow raised, waiting, "Lashana, you know you guys make me crazy when you do that. You know I can feel that you're upset, so don't try to tell me otherwise."

Lashana shook her head, "I'm sorry Alex, it really is not anything big. Just some old memories that I thought I had gotten rid of popped back up when Storm mentioned the name Aidan. I guess I'm torn between wanting it to be my sister, and being afraid that it is her and that not only will she not understand why I disappeared like I did, but knowing that I'm putting her in danger simply by associating with her. I just am not sure how to handle this whole situation."

Alex hugged her sister, "Lashana, you said yourself that the odds of your sister getting a job with the WWF were slim and none. Don't worry about it, everything will work out just fine."

"I know Alex...thanks for listening." The two girls picked up the coffee pot and cups and headed back to the living room. Once everyone had coffee, Lashana curled up with Steve on the couch and halfway listened to the conversation going on around her, still thinking about the person she still considered in her heart to be her baby sister.
