The Official "Auto" Biography

...or things you don't need to know about Autolycus when you're watching H:TLJ:
° Autolycus was the son of Chione and the god Hermes

° Autolycus had a twin brother, Philammon, born of Chione and Apollo

° Autolycus was the grandfather to Odysseus

° Autolycus taught Hercules how to wrestle

° Autolycus served on the Argo with Jason

The Herculean "Auto" Biography

Not much is known about The King of Thieves' early years. Actually, as self absorbed as Autolycus was, he rarely talked about his past. We do know a few things, both of his parents died early in his childhood:
"My father. Well, that would be an interesting subject, except that he was killed before I was born. My mother died when I was eight, so it was just my older brother to take care of me."

We also know he began his thieving ways shortly after his brother died:
"A bloated merchant from Scyros tricked my brother Malaegus out of his land. And when Malaegus protested, the merchant had him killed. And the powers that be did nothing about it. So I delivered my own justice. I robbed that merchant, and I gave every dinar he had to the sick, the hungry, the poor. The merchant became a pauper, and well, I became an outlaw."

And he was married once:
"We were a couple of crooked kids, crazy in love. Life with Luscious was full of booty. And we stole a lot of stuff too."

Stories from the Script

I recently got my hands on the original script to "King of Thieves". Here are some little known facts about Autolycus that didn't make it to the screen.

° Autolycus performed with the Delpi Carnival as an escape artist. Dirce saw him perform.

° Autolycus was originally written wearing a red tunic. Hercules asked an old woman on the side of the road if he had seen a tall man with dark hair and a red tunic. Hmm....I wonder why the change to green?
