Tom & Viv

Tom & Viv

This section of my site is dedicated to one of my very favorite movies starring Miranda. It truly shows her brilliant acting abilities to their best. Miranda plays Vivienne, a beautiful, smart lady who is cursed with a hormonal imbalance which makes her unpredictable with horrible moodswings. Miranda did a superior job at portraying this character, she does it so well. Every scene is so real, if someone else had played Viv this movie would not have been nearly as good. Way to go Miranda!!! Rent this, no buy this movie, you won't be the same afterwards.

This film gives an intense, passionate rendering of the relationship between American poet T.S. Eliot and his first wife, Vivienne Haigh-Wood. Students when they met, Eliot and Haigh-Wood shared a turbulent life together, due in large part to Viv's unpredictable mental illnesses. Academy Award Nominations: 2, including Best Actress--Miranda Richardson; and Best Supporting Actress--Rosemary Harris

"The film is dedicated to the memory of Vivienne Eliot and to her brother, Maurice Haigh-Wood who made it possible to tell her story."

This film explores the early life of poet T.S. and his little-known first marriage to Vivienne Haigh-Wood, a talented writer who served as his muse. Vivienne, who suffered from an hormonal imbalance that caused violent mood swings, encouraged her reserved husband's talents but her passion and unpredictable behavior embarrassed him; their relationship unraveled as the side effects from her medication made her even more unstable. When the success of his poem "The Wasteland," brought him fame, Eliot devoted himself to his literary career and to a new circle of friends. Eventually, with the assistance of his wife's family, Eliot gained control of Vivienne's estate and had her committed to a mental hospital. Vivienne eventually regained her health, but by then all was lost.
