Introductory
Remarks
The purpose of this index is to list the easiest place to find each Robert E. Howard story, poem, article and letter. Some remain very hard to find. Others are currently in print from more than one modern publisher. I list these by the categories that, to me, seem the most logical. I am in no way suggesting that these groupings should also be published collections of Howard material (well, maybe just a little).
The Wandering Star / Del Rey collections are wonderful. These volumes consult original texts to present the most authentic material possible. However, the Wildside / Girasol collections are also valuable. The Howard editors of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, either through some misguided intent, or through abject carelessness, produced volumes that were hardly pure Howard. The Wildside / Girasol volumes are more desirable than these ’60s, ’70s and ’80s collections as these volumes are based on the original pulp text. They will do until the appropriate Wandering Star / Del Rey volumes become available.
