Materials used here are the same as the turtle.
Note: Snail shell is worked in a continuous spiral. There is no joining chain, so be sure to mark the last st of the round.
Special stitch: SC decl.--draw up one loop in each of next 2 sts. YO & draw through all 3 loops on hook. Or use whatever your usual SC decl. is.
Directions:
Ch 2.
Round 1: 5 sc in 2nd ch. (Allow to form a rough circle.)
Round 2: Sc twice in BackLoopOnly (BLO) of each sc. 10 sc
Round 3: Sc twice in first st. (Sc in 1 st, sc twice in following st) around. 15 sc
Round 4: Sc twice in BLO of first st. (Sc in BLO of 2 sts; sc twice in BLO of following st) around. 20 sc
Round 5: Sc twice in first st. (Sc in 3 sts; sc twice in following st) around. 25 sc
Round 6: Sc twice in BLO of first st. (Sc in BLO of 4 sts; sc twice in BLO of following st) around. 30 sc
Round 7: Sc twice in first st. (SC in 5 sts; sc twice in BLO of following st) around. 35 sc
Round 8: Sc twice in BLO of first st. (SC in BLO of 6 sts; sc twice in BLO of following st) around, changing to color B in last st. 40 sc
Row 9: Sc in 8 sts.
Row 10: Sc in first 7 sts. Sc twice in last st. 9 sc
Row 11: Sc twice in first st. Sc in each remaining st. DO NOT FINISH OFF 10 sc
Row 12: Ch 1, turn. SC in side of rows 11, 10, & 9. sc in row 8 (in same st as where you joined row 9) & in 3 additional row 7 sts. Note: you'll be working up a curve here to form the "neck" of the snail.
Row 13:Ch 1, turn. Sc in first 5 sts, sc decl. over last 2 sts. 6 sc
Row 14: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st. 6 sc
Row 15: Ch 1, turn. Sc twice in the sides of rows 14, 13, & 12. Sl st into round 8. 6 sc
Row 16: Ch 1, turn. Sc twice in each st. Sl st in 3 sts of row 14. Finish off & weave in ends.
