"No time for breakfast again honey? You know it's the most important meal of the..."
"Sorry mom. Clover, Bright Eyes, and I have a chemistry test this morning. We're meeting early at the library to study." Sweetheart closed the door and breathed a sigh of relief when she finally got away from the disgusting stench of fresh bacon, maple syrup, and pancakes. She just couldn't stomach breakfast anymore and desperately hoped her parents wouldn't worry about it too much. But she knew they would anyway. She also knew she couldn't hide this from them much longer, but how on earth would she even begin to tell them? Sweetheart decided to put the subject on the back burner and get to the bridge to meet Teddy before school. She knew he'd be there.
Teddy looked down at the rushing water below as it bubbled and splashed upon the jagged rocks that directed the winding river. He didn't know why, but he was still drawn to this place when he had alot on his mind. He looked up at the sound of approaching footsteps and smiled. Suddenly he was reminded of the first time he'd run into Sweetheart on this very bridge. Back then he'd come here seriously considering joining the fast current and jagged rocks below. But that day she'd changed all that, and saved his life too. What an over-achiever. Teddy smiled again as she joined him by his side.
Sweetheart returned his smile, "Fancy meeting you here."
Teddy shook his head, looking back down at the sparkling water.
Sweetheart spun around and leaned back over the railing in front of him. "If I fell, would you catch me, beefcake?"
"Are you crazy? I'm not going in there. You know what fish do in that water??"
Sweetheart laughed and leaned up to kiss him. "You're so romantic...Will you marry me my little Don Juan?" Teddy rolled his eyes as Sweetheart laughed again. She knew very well the subject of marriage was unapproachable by him, but she loved teasing him anyways.
"What are you doing up so early?"
"Mom made pancakes for breakfast." Sweetheart made her totally disgusted face, hanging her tongue out the side of her mouth.
"I see." Teddy answered, smiling.
"Yeah, I dunno how much longer I can hide it from them. They're getting awfully suspiscious and I absolutely hate lying to them."
"Don't worry, we'll tell them soon enough."
"When?"
"Today after school?"
Sweetheart nodded and Teddy put his arm around her. She was terribly nervous and unsure of how they'd react, but she knew they had to do it. They might as well get it over with.
