Betty drove up with the 57 Chevy last night, so we will continue the tour in style.

I asked Betty if she had any trouble getting there and back and she said everything went ok until she drove into NC and was stopped by the local constabulary who wanted to give her a ticket for a funny license plate. But he finally let her go. She was grateful and took his picture.

Minneapolis takes its name from Dakota "minne" (water) and Greek "polis" (city), a fitting name for a city with 15 lakes. It is the largest city in Minnesota just west of its twin city, St. Paul.

The Dakota Indians gave Minnesota its name - "sky-tinted water". French explorers searching for the northwest Passage were the first Europeans to visit the region. In 1680, Father Louis Hennepin happened upon St. Anthony Falls. One hundred and forty years later, soldiers from nearby Fort Snelling constructed a sawmill and flour mill at the falls. By the 1840s the village of St. Anthony had been established on the east bank of the Mississippi and the village of Minneapolis on the west bank. The two towns were soon linked by a suspension bridge.

Minneapolis' first volunteer fire company was organized in 1862 and the community was chartered as a city in 1867. In 1872 Minneapolis and St. Anthony were united to form one city.

A popular activity is boating down the Mississippi in a paddleboat.

Minnehaha Creek zig-zags across south Minneapolis all the way from the western border with Edina before entering the Mississippi River in the east.
