VIVERETTE, JR. IWO JIMA VETERAN, SUICIDE VICTIM IN NASH. Rocky Mount 23
April - Joseph Viverette, Jr., 29 year-old Marine combat veteran of WWII,
died in a hospital here early today of gun wounds which Nash County Coroner
Van B. Matthews said were self-inflicted. The young veteran of the IWO Jima
campaign was said to have inflicted the fatal wounds at his home early
Saturday night. He had been employed at a grist mill here. Funeral services
will be conducted from Gays Funeral Home here at 3:30 o'clock Monday
afternoon with interment following in Pineview Cemetery. Survivors include
his wife, Mrs. Vivian Whitley Viverette; a son Ronnie Wayne and a daughter,
JoAnn; his parents Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Viverette and a brother, Jesse Lee
Viverette. All are from this area.
