Jack was born in Nocona, Texas, to the late John E. and Ella Curd Myers Evans. His family moved to Donie when Jack was ten years old. J.E. left school in the 8th grade to go to work and help earn for his family. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and married Dorothy Dean Pickens while in the service on July 14, 1951. They shared over 65 years of marriage together. Jack worked for the Teague Brick Plant for 28 years and later worked for Walsh Security at H. L. & P. for ten years before retiring. he was a Baptist by faith and was baptized in a creek near Wilson Chapel south of Donie. He joined Eighth Avenue Baptist Church on July 28, 1962, and was an active member and was ordained a deacon on May 3, 1988. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leo Evans; sister, Lula Mae Evans Huffman and husband, Dale Huffman; and a great-grandson, Levi Nathaniel Evans. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Dean Pickens Evans, of Teague; sons: James Evans and wife, Ginny, of Corsicana, Derell Evans and wife, Glenda, of Fairfield, and Dennis Evans and wife, Sonia, of Abilene; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson, Roland Hutson; sister-in-law, Sybil Clark Evans, of Pasadena; other relatives and many friends."
