"Mr. Noah "Eddie" New, 95, of Mexia, Texas, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010, in Mexia. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, in the Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Hooper and Mr. Neil Bond officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Eddie, as he was known to everyone, was born in Shiloh, Texas, to the late Daniel Elijah and Zina Mae Terry New. Eddie owned and operated Eddie New Grocery in Mexia for 35 years and was also a longtime rancher. He married Tommie V. Bradford on July, 8, 1939, in Mexia. Eddie was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and treasurer. He also served his country as a Shipfitter 3rd class aboard the USS Walker - DD517, in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Eddie was a kind and jovial man who enjoyed serving those around him. This is evident by the way he served his country, community and church. He served on the Mexia State School Volunteer Council, the City of Mexia as city commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem, the Heart of Texas Council of Governments, and Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. Eddie was a longtime member of the Mexia Lions club, having served on the Board of Directors, Lion tamer, and was awarded Lion of the year in 1993. Also in 1993, he was recognized by the State Senate for his contributions to his community and volunteer service. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Vester New and Ila Masters; and brothers, Charlie New, Rosco New and Bill New. Survivors include his wife, Tommie New, of Mexia; sons, Noah E. New Jr. and wife, Claudia (Moss) New, of DeSoto, and Timothy Ben New and wife, Jeane (Rodgers) New, of Effingham, S.C.; grandchildren, Courtney (New) Hartnett and husband, Chris, of New Braunfels, Tabetha (New) Wilson and husband, Brian, of Mechanicsville, Va., Tiffany (New) Courtney and husband, Haynes, of Mebane, N.C., and Kristina (New) Nichols and husband, David, of Timmonsville, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Logan, Ashley, and Cassie Wilson, Ryley Nichols, and Chandler, Cameron, and Jack Hartnett; sisters, Alta Beene, of Mexia, Jo Nell Stem, of Marlin, and Mary Bond, of Mexia; many other family members; and a host of friends. The Waco Tribune-Herald is an American daily newspaper serving Waco, Texas and vicinity.

The newspaper has its roots in five predecessors, beginning with the Waco Evening Telephone in 1892. The Tribune-Herald took its current identity when E.S. Fentress and Charles Marsh, who owned the Waco News-Tribune, bought the Waco Times-Herald. That purchase was the beginning of Newspapers, Inc., a chain which eventually owned 13 newspapers. Founded 1892 (as the Waco Evening Telephone).
Mrs. Alta Ilene New Beene passed away May 6, 2011, in Mexia at the age of 92. Mrs. Beene was born May 5, 1919 in Limestone County to D. E. and Zina Mae Terry New. She was a lifelong resident of Limestone County. Mrs. Beene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Rex Beene. Survivors include her six children, Kenneth and Bernice Beene, Elaine Huckabee, Ann and Frank David, Dan and Sally Beene, Bill and Pam Beene and Debbie Beil. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and sisters, Jo Stem and Mary Bond. Funeral services will be 10 am Monday, May 9, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Mexia with Rev. Michael Vestal and Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Shiloh cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Huckabee, Kevin Beene, Michael David, Kent David, James Daniel Beene, Brad Beene and Bret Beene. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Beene, Jack Beene and Bobby Beene.
