The newspaper has its roots in five predecessors, beginning with the Waco Evening Telephone in 1892. The Tribune-Herald took its current identity when E.S. Fentress and Charles Marsh, who owned the Waco News-Tribune, bought the Waco Times-Herald. That purchase was the beginning of Newspapers, Inc., a chain which eventually owned 13 newspapers. Founded 1892 (as the Waco Evening Telephone).
"Weldon "W.M." Moody Tidwell, 89, of Brazoria, Texas, formerly of Hubbard, Texas, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2014, at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Wade Funeral Chapel.

Weldon was born in Freestone County, Texas, to Walter V. and Mary Moody Tidwell. He attended Mexia Schools before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. Weldon served from August 15, 1941 to November 16, 1946. He then worked in the oil fields in New Mexico. It was shortly after that when Weldon started his career in the trucking industry. First, with Brown Express in Houston/Waco and then with Yellow Freight System in Tulsa, OK/Dallas, Texas. Weldon worked for Yellow Freight as a Dispatcher and Line Haul Operations Manager for 25 years. After his retirement in 1982, he worked in the Hubbard/Malone area as a carpenter.

Weldon married Mabelene Adler on August 22, 1957. In the late 1960s they decided to move to Hubbard and together they built their home with help from family and friends. It was completed in June, 1970. Weldon served on the Post Oak Water Board and Hill County Appraisal District Board of Directors. He was very active in the Hubbard City Masonic Lodge #530, where he served as Worshipful Master and as District Deputy Grand Master. Weldon and Mabelene attended Salem Lutheran Church and St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Malone. In 2006, they moved to Brazoria, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter V. Tidwell, Mary Moody Tidwell Knight; step-father, J. E. Knight; baby-brother, Smith Tidwell; infant son, Weldon, Jr. ; step- son, Wayne McGinnis; a grandson, Kenneth Wayne Black; great-grandchildren, Kenzie Lenox and Danny Lenox, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mabelene Tidwell, of Brazoria; daughters, Carolyn McElroy and husband, Jim, of Shiloh, and Sharon Fox and husband, Tim, of Brazoria; grandsons, Danny Lenox and wife, Nichole, of Malone, and Charles Black, of Dallas; granddaughters, Mary Kozlovsky and husband, Greg, of Hillsboro, Laura Fisher and husband, Rory, of Colorado, and Shannon Lenox Skilling and husband, Willie, of Hubbard; great-grandchildren: Keslie, Cutter, Olivia and Jillian Lenox, Chance Moody Hasse, Kenneth Brandon Black, Mitchell and Lauren Kozlovsky, and Brett, Brittany, Megan and Morgan Fisher; brother, Walter Tidwell and wife, Elissa, of Columbus, Georgia; other relatives and many friends."

Ms. Pollard was born on March 11, 1939 in Mexia, Texas to James Monroe & Zippha McBay. She was a beautician for many years, working in several barber shops in the area. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Norris Owens & James T. Owens; sisters, Mary Lee Owens Damron, Reba Owens and Ruby Owens. Ms. Pollard is survived by her children, Terrie Harman of Henderson, Texas, James Glynn Pollard of Buckholts, Texas and Rodney Pollard of Henderson, Texas; as well as six grandchildren.
