The Twenty-ninth Regiment Arkansas Infantry, CSA, was orginized in June 1862 with ten companies from Ashley, Clark, Dallas, Jackson and Pulanski Counties. Company A and G were raised in Ashley County. The regiment was first commanded by Colonel Joseph C. Pleasants, who was killed in action at the Battle of Prairie Grove on 12/7/1862. Col Pleasants was suceeded in command by Col Samuel S. Bell of Ashley County on 12/21/1862.
