"Funeral services for Mrs. Lavinia Ellen Smith Leonard, 86, of Springhill, was to be held at 11 a.m. today, May 19, 2008, at New Sarepta Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Teutsch officiating. Interment was to follow at Old Sarepta Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill.
Mrs. Leonard was born Jan. 20, 1922 in Springhill to Clarence Edgar and Hazel Ozella Matthews Smith and passed away Friday, May 16, 2008 in Bossier City.
She was a lifelong resident of this area, a member of New Sarepta Baptist Church and was retired from International Paper Company.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie D. Leonard on April 6, 2006; and her brother, Donald F. Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Kay Ellen Beck and husband Gary of Valley Mills, Texas; son, Gary Alan Leonard of Shreveport; four grandchildren, Shane Beck and wife Rosanne and Tony Beck, all of Dallas, Texas, and Shelby and Josh Leonard of Shreveport; sisters-in-law, Doris Smith of Austin, Texas, Mary Sue Leonard of Ruston and Nell Folmer of Tyler, Texas. Pallbearers were E.L. "Louise Virginia Williams, age 91, of Crossett, died Thursday, July 20 at the Ashley County Medical Center. She was born January 30, 1909, to her parents, Fulton and Kate Redding Womble in Ashley County. Mrs. Williams was a housewife and a member of the South Crossett Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, I. H. "Bill" Williams. Survivors include one son, Billy Williams of Jacksonville, FL; four daughters, Katie Kitchens of Texarkana, Sybil Rolen of West Monroe, LA, Margie Strebeck and Linda Young, both of Crossett; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with the Revs. Jimmy Lewis and James Kitchens officiating. Pallbearers were Steve Jordan, Gary Booker, Curtis McDill, Mike Kitchens, John Ginn and Steve Kinchloe.
