How to log in to Win 95 without a Password

These are really easy ways so don't be annoyed if you know them already

1. When you are booting up the computer you should see ' starting windows 95 ' press f8 when you see this and you should see the boot keys . You have two choices , you can start up in safe mode and you will not be asked to log in , or you can choose the command prompt and start up in dos.

2. This is lame , but it can work . When you get the password screen just click cancel.

3. This way will not work on a network but it will work on any single Win 95 box. As in step 1 you press f8 to get the system configuration , press whatever key is needed to start up in dos to get the command prompt . (usually 6 or 7 ) . When you see the c:\ prompt type " rename c:\windows\*.pawl c:\windows\*.duh " this will rename the password files which the computer needs to verify the passwords. You can then type in the user name and your preferred password and you will be in charge of their account.

4. In windows explorer (or browser etc.) you can view the contents of another users account (only where all the files are stored on that computer) by going to the folder c:\windows\profiles\username\ this will allow you to view their files

5. For more advanced users only , Have a backup and startup disk ready for your computer if you aren't sure of what you are doing. Using reedit change all the login figures in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE : Network : Logon : e.g.. modify logon validated from 01 00 00 00 to 00 00 00 00 etc.

6.Again for more advanced users , Using a packet sniffer on Win NT you can collect many password hashes which can be broken down into passwords by a password cracker such as the latest l0pht cracker . You can get the sniffer and cracker from the L0pht on their web page for a free trial ; Http://www.l0pht.com .

7. This way is very lame but it works so well , Look at the persons keystrokes as they type in their password . Sometimes people will type in their logon name and password in the same box so keep an eye on the person beside you .

8.You would be surprised how many people have fallen for this one , It is dealt with in greater depth in another tutorial . You set up a fake html page which asks for your name and password to register your drive or to gain access to hidden folders (use your imagination) then you get that info emailed to you , This works best in a college or university or somewhere with a leased line as you can send the output of the forms to a cgi script to email it to you , This is dealt in greater detail later on.

9. When presented with the password box , press control-alt-delete and close explorer , This method rarely works .
